Time 9:25 to 10:10 School The First Academy School
MCT Garnel Desravins Class 3c
Lesson Soil science inquiry No of 28
unit/page Types of soil students
Context of the lesson
discover three main types of soil which are silt, clay and sand and determine the differences of their texture,
color and the places that the soil is taken from.
Teaching goal
make them aware that there are different types of soil and determine the differences between them.
Learning objectives
The students will be able to:
- observe and record the different characteristics and make logical guesses of each sample of soil.
-Determine the differences between the three types of soil.

Assumptions about prior learning ((what I think that they know and dont know about the lesson))

This lesson is a follow- up lesson from the soil profile lesson in which students discovered what the soil is
made of and that there is different types of soil. The students will use this previous knowledge to make
logical guesses about the soil samples.
Anticipated problems and possible solutions (( what problems may happen ? Technology issues,
resources))

Personal focus for this lesson (( for me to be more engage, smile more, my voice ))

Target language (( key words, terms, phrases)) Teacher language ((my lecture part, my language

Engage
PURPOSE: of the engagement
 to convey the context of the lesson(s)/unit by conveying an important Key Question
 to engage students in investigations that reveal their thinking to themselves and the
teacher
 to record the initial ideas of students
 to engage their interest
Key Question:
what is soil?
Questions for whole group discussion:
What the soil made of?
How soil is formed?
What is the importance of the soil?
Materials: smart board, powerpoint

Reflection:
In today's lesson i've taught the same lesson twice, the first time I failed because it was the first time I take
the students to the lab. They surprised me with their behavior they were totally different! they were hyper
active where some students playing with chairs because they are not the same as the classroom chairs. I tried
to get their attention by reminding them of the points, they calmed down few minutes but when I gave them
the soil boxes to investigate they start to misbehave and I think that the mistake from me because I have to
raise my voice.
In the next class I did the same lesson with another class but I didn't take them to the lab and everything
went well. From this experience I learned that before taking the students to the lab I have to set for them lab
rules.
