ABSTRACT
Soil transmitted Helminthiasis are among the most common infections worldwide
and affect the poorest and deprived communities. Philippines is one of the countries in the
world with a high prevalence of STH infections affecting different population groups. Parents
and Barangay Health Workers are the primary personnel during Mass Drug administration
and t is very important that these two group are knowledgeable regarding transmission,
This study dealt with developing a training module on Integrated Helminth Control
Program It sought answers to the following: (1) the demographic profile of the respondents
in terms of 1.1 BHW age, sex, educational attainment, length of service and training attended
related to DOH Basic Training for BHW; 1.2 Parents age, sex, educational attainment, and
family monthly income, (2) the extent of knowledge of the barangay health workers and
parents on IHCP in terms of the following: transmission, nutritional effects, treatment and
proper STH prevention and control, (3) the extent of compliance of the respondents on IHCP
in terms of the following: transmission, nutritional effects, treatment, and proper STH

prevention and control, (4) the significant relationship between the extent of knowledge and
compliance of the respondents on Integrated Helminth Control Program (IHCP), (5) the
Control Program (IHCP) when they are grouped according to demographic profile, (6) the
Control Program (IHCP) when they are grouped according to demographic profile, (7) the
training module to be developed to enhance the extent of knowledge and compliance of BHWs
The methodology used in the study were the descriptive correlational and
descriptive comparative method. This involved the 23 barangay health workers and 258
To draw meaningful results, the researcher used the standard statistical tools such
Based on the gathered data, the following findings and conclusions were derived:
BHWs are less knowledgeable (LK) on IHCP in terms of transmission, knowledgeable (K) in
terms of nutritional effects, very knowledgeable (VK) in terms of treatment and proper STH
prevention and control. Moreover, Parents are not knowledgeable (K) on IHCP in terms of

transmission, less knowledgeable (LK) in terms of nutritional effects and treatment, and
knowledgeable in terms of proper STH prevention and control. The respondents fully
complied (FC) on IHCP in terms of transmission, nutritional effects, treatment and proper
STH prevention and control. Correlation was found between the respondents’ knowledge and
significant difference in the extent of knowledge on IHCP when the respondents are grouped
according to age, educational attainment, length of service and training attended related to
DOH basic Training for BHW On the other hand, there was a significant difference in the
extent of knowledge on IHCP when the respondents are grouped according to age, sex,
educational attainment and family monthly income. However, there was no significant
difference on the extent of compliance on IHCP when the BHWs are grouped according to
age, educational attainment, length of service, and training attended related to DOH Basic
Training for BHW. Likewise, there was no significant difference on the extent of compliance
on IHCP when the Parents s are grouped according to age and family monthly income.
Furthermore, there was a significant difference on extent of compliance when they are
grouped according to sex and educational attainment. The output of the study was a training
for the following: to the preschool children to be free from helminthiasis and to be able to
practice proper personal hygiene on his/her own, to the parents, BHWs, Municipal Health

Officer and teachers to utilize the research output. Likewise, to the future researcher to make
a comprehensive study regarding all registered BHWs as a basis for program planning.
