Puppet Dialogue
Use these puppet dialogues when teaching
Wiggle & Grow as an English as a Foreign
Language curriculum to children who have
had 9 units of ABC English & Me.

Before each lesson, hide your puppet in a different container (bag or box). Pretend to search for something in the container while
quietly slipping Puppet onto your hand. When the children least expect it, have Puppet “jump out” and shout “Peekaboo!” React
with exaggerated surprise.

Puppet: Peekaboo! Surprise! Hello, Teacher! Are you surprised?

Teacher: Yes, I’m very surprised. I think the children are surprised, too!
Puppet: Hooray! I surprised you!
Teacher: Yes, that was a real surprise! How are you feeling today? Are you sad? (Use sad voice and make sad face.)
Puppet: No, I’m NOT sad!
Teacher: Are you happy? (Use happy voice and make happy face.)
Puppet: Yes, I’m happy! (Use happy voice.)
Teacher: Let’s ask the children if they are happy or sad.
Puppet (to each child in turn): How are you feeling today? Are you sad? (Use sad voice.)
Child: (Prompt if necessary.) No, I’m NOT sad.*
Puppet: Are you happy? (Use happy voice.)
Child: (Prompt if necessary.) Yes, I’m happy!
Puppet: Good! I’m happy, too!

*If a child chooses to reply with “Yes, I am sad,” Puppet can ask why he or she is feeling sad and comfort the child.
(Take this opportunity to teach the word “hug.”) Hopefully, most children will indeed be feeling happy! You may find
that when children have become comfortable with the vocabulary, they will demonstrate this by giving other answers
(sad, angry, etc.), which will require Puppet to improvise.

Optional Extension
If some of the children do not understand the words “happy” or “sad,” show the main unit visuals that illustrate
these concepts.
