learners

Subject/ Skill U. S. History


Disciplinary Skill Standard: SS.6-8.EUSH.4: Gather relevant information from
multiple texts and evaluate the sourcing, context, and corroboration of the texts
with close reading and disciplinary skills.
Identify: SS.6-8.EUSH.13: Investigate the factors that shaped group and national
identity in early U.S. history in relation to views of American Identity today.

Objective(s) 1. Students will be able to describe the cause of the Revolutionary war by
writing an essay based on the material cover in class and the reading done
for homework.
2. Students will be able to correctly identify the people involved in the
Revolutionary War by creating a power point detailing they lives and the
important parts they played during the war.

Procedures(s) 1. Present the objective to the students,


 list the terms and names the students will need to know,
 describe the concepts the students will be learning
2. review Prerequisites:
 Students will need to know how to create: power points, thinking maps,
and essays
 They will have to know the terms for this lesson
 The purpose of this lesson is to build a stronger understanding of how the
United States were created and how those views that shaped the United
States have changed today
3. Modeling: present the power point while students take notes
 Show the students how to write an essay using thinking maps
 Show students how to create a power point
4. Guided Practice
Students will begin working on their thinking maps in groups of 4
5. Independent Student Practice: Students will work on their power points
independently
Materials Textbook, laptop, internet access, power point, paper and pencil or pens

Modifications English Language learners will use Google Translate (or other translator) to
understand the class lesson and to communicate with other students in their
group. They will also receive a printout from the class notes to be able to follow
along with the rest of the class
Learning disabled students will receive a handout of the class notes and allowed
more time to complete the assignments.

Assessment The students will be quizzed on the Revolutionary War and the people involved in
it. They will also have to complete their essays and power points that they started
in class. Homework will be assigned based on the lesson topic and definitions will
be collected as part of assessment how well the students have learned the subject
