PLANNING OVERVIEW – TERM
Year Level Unit Title Salvation Topic Aspect of Human Development
4 Coming To Your Table Eucharist Wondering at our bodies which are
different
Overview – explanation of the content of the unit and how it explores the Salvation Topic and development of the Human Person
Everyone in the world is different and unique in his or her own way. From a very young age students begin to wonder why we are all different and why God
created us this way. Many are drawn to wonder who God is and how he loves each of us personally. Students come to discover that followers of Jesus know
that their physical differences are one way God reminds everyone that each is special to God. God knows and loves each personally, and in a special way.

Students discuss and identify how Jesus treated everyone with love and kindness, regardless of their differences. He showed his followers that they too
should love everyone individually. In order to achieve this Jesus draws them closer to himself and to others, through the Eucharist.

Students recognise that Jesus calls them to receive him in Holy Communion. Through this Jesus is showing how close he wants to be with each of them.
Students recognise how Jesus changes the bread and wine into his Body and Blood during each Mass and He draws together all who receive him in Holy
Communion. Students compare the symbolism of the bread and wine to many people forming one body and recognise that Catholics celebrate the Eucharist
as God’s Family. The more frequent they celebrate the Eucharist, the more God’s family are helped by Jesus to love others are they love themselves,
regardless of physical and cultural differences. Students continue to remember that Jesus strengthens his followers to love every human individual regardless
of physical differences.

PLANNED ASSESSMENT
1 formal assessment that links to a key understanding or learning point develops higher order thinking skills and
comprehensively assesses student learning.

During Week 4 students are to create a Mass book to help them learn the elements,
responses, gestures and prayers used during Mass. On completion, students will be able to
refer back to their Mass books in order to assist them with participating successfully in Mass.
The teacher is to use this rating scale to mark student Mass books. In order to receive a ‘4’,
students will need to have made no mistakes throughout the Mass book.

PLANNED RITUAL – Year 4 Eucharist
Liturgical colour: White
Church setup: Students murals/collages are displayed around the Church.
The Introductory Rites
Entrance Hymn: Glory and Praise to our God
Glory and praise to our God,
Who alone gives light to our days.
Many are the blessings he bears
To those who trust in his ways.

We, the daughters and sons of him,

Who built the valleys and plains.
Praise the wonders our God has done
In every heart that sings.

In his wisdom he strengthens us,

Like gold that's tested in fire.
Though the power of sin prevails,
Our God is there to save.

Every moment of every day

Our God is waiting to save,
Always ready to seek the lost,
To answer those who pray.

God has watered our barren land

And sent his merciful rain.
Now the rivers of life run full
For anyone to drink.

Greeting:
Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Response: Amen.
Priest: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Response: And with your spirit.

Penitential Rite:
Priest: Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins, and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
Response: I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do.
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Priest: May almighty God have mercy on use, forgive us of our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.
Response: Amen.

O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the
world,
have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of god the Father. Amen

The Liturgy of the Word

First Reading: Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17 (The shepherd cares for his sheep)
A reading from the prophet Ezekiel
The Lord spoke to Ezekiel, “I, the Sovereign Lord, tell you that I myself will look for my sheep and take care of them in the
same way as a shepherd takes care of his sheep that were scattered and are brought together again. I will bring them back
from all the places where they were scattered on the dark, disastrous day. I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I
will find them a place to rest. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken.”

“I will look for those that are lost, bring back those that wonder off, bandage those that are hurt, and heal those that are
sick; but those that are fat and strng I will destroy, because I am the shepherd who does what is right.”

“Now then, my flock, I, the Sovereign Lord, tell you that I will judge each of you and separate the good from the bad, the
sheep from the goats.”
The word of the Lord
Response: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 23:1-6

Response: The Lord is my shepherd and king.
The Lord is my shepherd;
I Have everything I need.
He lets me rest in fields of green grass
and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water.
He gives me new strength.
Response: The Lord is my shepherd and king.
He guides me in the right paths, as he has promised.
Even if I go through the deepest darkness,
I will not be afraid, Lord, for you are with me.
Your shepherd’s rod and staff protects me
Response: The Lord is my shepherd and king.
You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me;
you welcome me as an honoured guest and fill my cup to the brim
Response: The Lord is my shepherd and king.
I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life;
and your house will be my home as long as I live.
Response: The Lord is my shepherd and king.

Gospel Acclamation:
Alleluia, alleluia!
Christ the king will reign forever.
Alleluia!
Gospel: Matthew 25:31-46 (The king will judge all nations).
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Response: Glory to you, O Lord.
Jesus said, “When the Son of man comes as king and all the angels with him, he will sit on his royal throne, and the people
of all the nations will be gathered before him. Then he will divide them into two groups just as a shepherd separated the
sheep from the goats. He will put the righteous people on his right and the others on his left. Then the king will say to the
people on his right, “Come, you that are blessed by the Father! Come and posses the kingdom which has been prepared for
you ever since the creation of the world. I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and
you receive me in your homes, naked and you clothes me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me.’

“The righteous will then answer him, ‘When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink?
When did we ever see you’re a stranger and welcome you in our homes, or naked and clothe you? When did we ever see
you sock or in prison, and visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you did this for on of the least important of
these brothers of mine, you did it for me!’

“The he will say to those on his left, ‘Away from me, you that are under God’s curse! Away to the eternal fire which has
been prepared by the Devil and his angels! I was hungry but you would not feed me, thirsty but you would not give me a
drink; I was a stranger but you would not welcome me in your homes, naked but you would not clothe me; I was sick and in
prison but you would not take care of me.’

“Then they will answer him, ‘When Lord, did we ever see you hungry or thirst or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and
would not help you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you refused to help one of these least important ones, you
refused to help me.’ These, then, will be sent off to eternal punishment, but the righteous will go to eternal life.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
Response: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Homily:

Profession of the Faith:

Response: I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look
forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Offertory Song: Gifts of Bread and Wine

Gifts of bread and wine, gifts we’ve offered,
Fruits of labour, fruits of love.
Taken, offered, sanctified.
Blessed and broken, words of one who died.
Take my body, take my saving blood.
Gifts of bread and wine, Christ our Lord.
Christ our Saviour, living presence here.
As he promised while on earth.
I am with you for all time.
I am with you in this bread and wine.

To the Father, with the Spirit

One in union with the Son.
For God’s people, joined in prayer.
Faith is strengthened by the food we share.

Communion Hymn: Why me Lords?

Why me Lord, what have I ever done?
To deserve even one of the pleasures I've known.
Tell me Lord, what did I ever do?
That was worth loving You for the kindness You've shown.

Lord, help me Jesus, I've wasted it so.

Help me Jesus I know what I am.
But now that I know I needed You so.
Help me Jesus, my soul's in Your hand.

Tell me Lord, if You think there's no way.

I can try to repay all I've taken from You.
Maybe Lord, I can show someone else
What I've been through myself on my way back to you.

Concluding Rites
