CEIT 319 - Instructional Technology and Material Development Reflection

For the project, we thought we need to choose best topic to make a unit plan for more than

one week. We also gave importance to choose topic that have impact on children lives and we

wanted them to learn something to be beneficial for their future lives. Due to these thoughts, we

chose “occupation” to make our final project.

While writing our unit plan and lessons plans, we took consider children age levels as a

criterion. We had to give objectives to all children as possible as with the activities. In order to be

sure, we reach success with our lesson plans, we needed to prepare something more than lessons

plans. We found appropriate worksheet to children for supporting their learning after activities

both in class and at home environment. We prepared an activity via google forms for children to

want them make it with parents at home to make learning more permanent. For this project, we

had a limited time because of our final exam weeks and we had to make our project as a pair

because we did not want to make a group with friends who will not be a helpful and supportive

group member.

At first, we had difficulties to understand what is the aim of the project and we had

difficulties to understand what we had to do in the project. In this sense, the example project was

helpful to understand steps.

As a future teacher, we are aware that in this world taking children attention to the activity

is not possible for all time. Teachers have some difficulties in this sense in the classroom because

children have a life with technology at home and they want to see these technology in the

classroom while they are learning from teacher. In this sense, preparing lesson plans with very
helpful, enjoyable and useful website will be more beneficial for children’s learning and taking

their attention on the activity.

For the ASSURE models phases, we have tried to consider and take as a criterion all of each phase

while we are preparing our unit plans and lessons plans. For a “A” nalyze Learners, we had to be

sure what children can learn and understand, what children levels are, their existing knowledge

according to their age and their developmental stages. We identified children very clearly for our

criteria before preparing lessons plans. For the “S”tate Standards and Objectives, we chose our

objectives before planning and writing our lessons plans. After deciding on objectives that we wanted to children

gain in the activity, we started to write our plans. In addition, the ABCD model is a guide while stating our objectives

in the plans. For the next step in ASSURE model, “S”elect Strategies Technology, Media, and Materials, we

have considered about what kind of strategies we can use in the activities. After deciding on strategies, we needed to

choose appropriate technologies that we will use while applying activities with children in order to support their

learning with a best way. We needed to think about what children need to learn with what kind of technologies and

strategies. We also decided on materials that we will use in the activity process, after the activity or before starting to

activity for an assessment tool or supporter tool to their learning. For the “U”tilize Technology, Media, and

Materials, we have used to computer and projector to reach all children in the classroom while the videos are opened

while applying activities. We have selected to use projector because display screen should be enough to all children’s

see to understand better the content of the video. For the “R”equire Learner Participation, we have planned to

make children active participant in all activities and all activities are child-centered. The activity that we prepared

with Google Forms is another activity that need children as an active participant. For the “E”valuate and Revise, we

needed to choose best evaluate strategies what children learned from the activity and we needed to choose effective

methods to revise the topic of lesson plans to understand whether we reached the aim of the activity or not.
