Information Literacy is an important component
of the Otis curriculum, particularly in Liberal
Studies, and is woven through all four years.

In Liberal Arts and Sciences, in studio, in future

workplaces, and in students' personal lives there
is a need constantly expanding skills to
successfully negotiate information spaces and
to filter what is found.

By the end of an Otis education, students should be able to:

Define and articulate each various need for information.

Access the needed information effectively and efficiently.

Evaluate information and its sources critically.

Use the information to accomplish a specific purpose.

Understand the economic, legal, and social issues that surround the use of information and use that information
ethically and legally.

Information Literacy is a critical skill that will support success both during time at Otis and after.

All students are required to complete a series of online Tutorials and use the skills learned for research in all courses. Otis
Faculty members have collaborated with the Otis Librarian to create Course Pathfinders and other Guides located on the
Library web site.

Information literacy actually involves the integration of many literacies: library expertise, computer skills, media literacy,
technology, ethics, critical thinking and communication.
Librarians are readily available to answer questions and provide additional instruction and assistance when asked. Otis College of Art and Design
