Computer Hardware Servicing NC II

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to;
1. Identify and classify tools used in repairing a computer
2. Select the best tool for each task
3. Value the importance of following proper use of tools

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Classification of Hardware Tools
Tools and Materials: Laptop, Projector, Chalk Board, Chalk, ESD Tools, Hand Tools,
Cleaning Tools, Diagnostic Tools

III. PROCEDURES
1. Preparation
a) Greetings
b) Prayer
c) Checking of Attendance
d) Review of the past lesson

2. Motivation
The teacher will ask the students;
a) Who have seen a PC Technician troubleshooting and repairing a computer?
b) What is used in repairing a computer?
And so on the students would be aware that we will identify the tools used in
repairing a computer.

Technical Terms
1. Tool - a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task.
2. Static electricity - an accumulation of electric charge on an insulated body
3. Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) – is the release of static electricity when two
objects come into contact.

4. Lesson Proper

 Classification of Hand Tools


Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) tools
1. Anti-static wrist strap - used to prevent ESD damage to computer equipment.
2. Anti-static mat - used to stand on or place hardware on to prevent static
electricity from building up.

Hand tools
1. Flat head screwdriver - used to loosen or tighten slotted screws
2. Philips head screwdriver - used to loosen or tighten crosshead screws.
3. Torx screwdriver - used to loosen or tighten screws that have a star-like
depression on the top.
4. Hex driver – sometimes called a nut driver, is used to tighten nuts
5. Needle-nose plier - used to hold small parts.
6. Wire cutter - used to strip and cut wires.
7. Tweezers - used to manipulate small parts.
8. Part retriever - used to retrieve parts from location that are too small for your
hand to fit.
9. Flashlight - used to light up areas that you cannot see well.
Cleaning tools
1. Lint-free cloth - used to clean different computer components without
scratching and leaving debris.
2. Compressed air - used to blow away dust and debris.
3. Cable ties - used to bundle cables neatly inside and outside of a computer.

Diagnostic tools
1. Multimeter - used to test the integrity of circuits and the quality of electricity
in computer components.

 Safe use of Tools


1. Select the best tool for each task and follow the manufacturer instructions
2. Use the tool for the purpose for which it was designed

5. Generalization
Who can summarize the different classification of tools in repairing a
computer? Give an example.

6. Application
Give an example of computer problems and ask the students what are the tools
needed in servicing the faulty components of computer.

Directions: Classify each tool according to their use. Write your answer in a
separate sheet of paper.
