c. Discuss how American Indians continue to contribute to American life (e.g., arts,
literature).

Technology Standard Addressed: 3. Knowledge Constructor: Students critically curate a variety of resources
using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning
experiences for themselves and others.

Selected Technology Tool: Popplet

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students are able to visually see the text, so if they prefer to read content rather than listen to someone
reading the content out loud then they have that option. There are multiple types of content on Popplet
including pictures, text, and videos. Students can zoom in on the boxes to see the text better. Students can
use headphones to listen to the videos rather than out loud, so they can focus on what the video is saying or
they can turn on the subtitles to read along with the video.

Lesson idea implementation:

Students will have a chance to create a concept map using Popplet. They will locate the region where
American Indians settled in North America. Then they will need to use the information learned in class as well
as research on their own about what types of food, clothing, and shelters each of these tribes had based on
the environment they settled in. Once they are finished they will present this information to the teacher and
class.
I will assess what they know based on the concept map they create. The concept map needs to be organized
and precise, while sharing what they have know/have learned about American Indians. They need to be able
to summarize the content in a way that they understand but still clearly states the facts. Students will be
exploring all of the Bloom’s levels other than Evaluating. They will be completing this task on their own with

my supervision. They will feel that they have achieved a project on their own. I will provide feedback on
whether or not they seemed to understand the content based on their concept map.

Reflective Practice:
The activity will be able to showcase that students can organize their thoughts and research content on their
own. This will be a project to follow up what we have already learned in class. To further this project they
could develop a timeline as to when the specific American Indian tribes first settled in the regions using
readwritethink.org, as web-based tool where students and teachers can create a timeline of their own. Then
to conclude the lesson we could discuss how American Indians continue to contribute to American life.
