3.2
The PERFORM Toolkit Window

The PERFORM Toolkit window

is divided into the following
panes:

Data Pane

The Data pane displays a data tree

and hierarchy for the current
project. Each project is made up of
one well, one borehole, and
several sections. The data tree also
contains depth and time data, well
plans, surveys, drilling events, and
rig state calibration parameter sets.

Properties Pane

The Properties pane displays

information about the element that
is currently selected in the data
tree. You can edit the description
of the element by clicking in the
Description cell.

Canvas Pane

The Canvas pane displays objects

that you can use to monitor your
project. When you create a new
project, this pane contains four
canvases by default:
• The Whiteboard canvas is used to
share logs, plots, gauges, and
numerical displays when you
collaborate with another InterACT
user.
• The Data Overview canvas displays
the Synchronized Log, Rig State pie
chart, and several numeric gauges.
• The Hole & Bit Depth vs Time canvas
displays the Time vs. Depth Cross Plot.
• Canvas 4 is blank so that you can
configure the space with the data that is
most valuable to you.

Ribbon Toolbar

PERFORM Toolkit displays three

types of toolbars:
• Ribbon toolbars across the top of the
main window
• Quick Access toolbar
• Toolbars on individual windows

file:///C:/U... 4/17/2016
User Inte... Page 3 of 65

There are seven ribbon toolbars,

and each toolbar can contain
buttons, selection lists, calendar
fields, and text fields. When you
open PERFORM Toolkit, the
Home ribbon toolbar appears.

3.4
Working with Workspaces

file:///C:/U... 4/17/2016
User Inte... Page 6 of 65

PERFORM Toolkit uses

workspaces to display a
predefined set of canvases on the
canvas pane.

When you create a project in

PERFORM Toolkit, you select
which workspace you want to use:
the default workspace
(General_Monitoring), a blank
workspace, or a workspace
defined by a user.

The default workspace,

General_Monitoring, contains four
canvases by default: Whiteboard,
Data Overview, Hole & Bit Depth
vs Time, and Canvas 4 (which is
initially blank). The Blank
workspace contains the
Whiteboard and one blank canvas.

If a colleague sends you a

workspace (.WKSPZ file), you
can switch an existing project to
use the new workspace by
importing the workspace. If you
have customized a workspace and
want to share it with others, export
the workspace and then send the
resulting WKSPZ file to your
colleague.

If you customize a workspace and

want to make it available as a user
template for future projects, save
the workspace as a template.

To create a new workspace

1. On the Ribbon toolbar, click Utility

Tools.

2. In the Workspace group, click New

Working with My Canvases

3.5.1
About My Canvases

My Canvases is used to save

canvas templates.

Opening many canvases in a

project may slow down the
application. You can save the
infrequently used canvas to My
Canvases, and then close it. When
you need it, you can create a same
one from My Canvases.

All the canvas templates in My

Canvases are put in a folder which
can be shared with others. If your
colleagues cannot access your My
Canvases folder, you can export
the templates and then send
the .cnvz file to them, then they
can import the .cnvz file to the
application.

Setting Data Focus

The Data Range section of the

Home ribbon toolbar lets you set
the focused data range. Setting a
more specific data focus limits the
amount of data available for
displaying on the application and
decreases the amount of system
resources required for monitoring.
Setting focus to a drilling event
helps you more quickly locate
those events on your time log and
synchronized log. Focus on a
drilling event offers only time-
based events.

You can set the data focus while

the application is in review mode
and before you connect to a
server.

To set the focus range

1. On the Ribbon toolbar, click Home

2. In the Data Range section, click

Set Range ( ).
The Data Range Selector dialog
box appears.

3. Do one of the following to select

the data range:
• On the Select Range tab, in the
table, select a row as the start time
and click Copy to Start, then
select a row as the end time and

file:///C:/U... 4/17/2016
User In... Page 29 of 65

click Copy to End. You can first

filter the data through the check
boxes in the Filter area.
• Directly set data range in the Start
Time box and in the End Time
box.
• Or you can select a computed
range on the Compute Range tab.

4. Click OK.

5.
Click Save ( ) on the Quick

• Ignore: do not import the unit
system
• Replace: replace the existing unit
system with the one to be imported
• Rename: import the unit system
with a new name

Select one of them and click OK.

To export a custom unit system

1. Select the check box of the unit

system you want to export.

Note:
For each unit system file, you can

occurring - Low, Medium, or
High.
You can attach local files or URLs
to the risk or event. Local files
will not be exported with the risk
or event while URLs can be
exported with the risk or event.
Unknown - From the current data
and calibration, the computation is
unable to compute a rig state and
implies that the data may be bad.
Absent - One or more of the
channels required for the
computation were absent.
Data Gap will not show up as a rig
state for a time interval but will
appear on the pie chart to show the
amount of time for which no data
is available in the time channel
set.

Technically, a custom question
actually has three functions and
four subroutines, but in this
document all program modules are
referred to as functions.
