(ARC61303) SYNOPSIS: REACTION PAPER (MARCH 2018) Name: Wee Sue Wen ID No.: 0322633 Lecturer: Mr. Nicholas Tutorial Time: Reader/Text Title: In the Cause of Architecture Synopsis No: 2 Author: Frank Lloyd Wright This reader is written based on rich experience of the author, separating it from others that are solely based on facts. Frank Lloyd Wright uses interesting and unconventional approach to explain each of the insights and details of radical styles in architecture. First, F.L. Wright had suggested the art of simplicity in architecture. Qualities of simplicity and repose measure the true value of art where integrity is eliminating the meaningless from discord. Buildings styles differs in their qualities and characteristics and it is the orientation of structures and elements that produces the differences. Styles set apart architectural work from others, providing individualistic character. Different materials with textures should make buildings fit to the environment, making the art outraged or neglected and complimenting. Secondly, he shows how an organic sense is created based on natural law. By using natural motif and colors of the materials, a form that harmonizes to the surrounding of the building can be created, making it quiet. In my opinion quiet refers to the essence that makes an architecture comfortable and easy to engage. In short, buildings should be designed revolving simplicity and the natural law but not with complicated elements and decoration as doing so will make it appear intimate and make process and character complicated. I agree to his sayings that ornamentation is not only for decoration but adds to the purpose and story of design. Decorations should be a compliment to the design surfaces and not covering it. Lastly, he mentioned that industrial movement are related to economic of an architect where treatment on materials should be simplified and arranged to fit modern processes. Machines should also be used to best advantage as the nature of materials best shows when using machine due to consistency and accuracy while saving time and cost. As a conclusion, I can now assure the style I’ve been practicing as I design, that using simplified design motif and also emphasis on blending building design to its surrounding is a good approach to start creating art in architecture. True art is made out of sincerity in design as well as.
