Materials
yellow worsted weight yarn
small amounts of black, white, red, and orange worsted weight yarn
4.25mm (G) hook, any hook size that single crochets tightly
tapestry needle
black safety eyes
Abbreviations/Descriptions
mr: magic ring (example: “mr 4” means make a mr, chain 1, 4 sc inside)
sc: single crochet
dec: decrease (sc 2 together or
invisible decrease)
inc: increase (2 sc in one stitch)
ch: chain
sl st: slip stitch
f/o: fasten off
Tail Feathers
Same technique as head feathers.
ch 9 turn, 2nd ch from hook sc across 8sc (first feather)
ch 2 turn, 2nd ch from hook, sc into bottom sc from first feather
ch 10 turn, 2nd ch from hook 9sc, sl st to bottom of first feather, turn sl st to end (second
feather)
ch 2 turn, 2nd ch from hook sc, sc to bottom of second feather
ch 5, turn 2nd ch from hook 4sc across, sl st to base of second feather (third feather)
sl st to the end of the third feather f/o
Construction
For best look and feel fill bottom of the bird with poly-fil beads.
Very easy no-sew option: fill a sock and then tie it closed.
Easy sew option: fill a sock and then sew the end closed.
Moderate sew option: create a bean bag out of fabric.
Sew belly piece across bottom going up the front a little bit.
Sew the top beak piece to the bottom beak piece to create one beak. Slightly stuff each
section and sew the beak centered and touching the belly.
Place eyes and sew them down. Push safety eyes through.
Sew on eyebrows.
