VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION
Support Group Facilitator
‘To provide emotional, social and or educational support to those
caring for people with dementia,
Initiate conversation among participants to share thelr challenges.
‘and successes in caring for someone with dementia
Work with staf to arrange for speakers as needed
Maintain a safe environment for participants where their
thoughts and feeling are valued
Redirect conversations or behaviors as needed
Complete meeting summary
‘Adhere to Facilitator Agreement duties and responsibilities
Promote Alzheimer's Association services
Refrain from promoting other agencies/organizations
Minimum of 12 months
‘meeting a month, 2-3 hours per meeting
Quarterly raining updates
Opportunities through service area — Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga,
Lake and Lorain counties.
Location to be agreed upon
Empathy and respect for individuals with dementia
Active listening skills
‘Strong oral communication skils
Ability to maintain professional boundaries
Minimum 1 year post caregiver for someone with dementia
Knowledge andior experience with Alzheimer's disease preferred,
but not required
Background in health care preferred, but not required

Community Educator
To Increase awareness of dementia related subjects through the
presentation of Alzheimer’s Association education programs.
Content mastery of § education programs within 6 months of starting
Pick up drop off program supplies at nearest Association office
‘Set-up & breakdown of audio-visual equipment
Present requested program
Field audience questions
Collects completed sign-ins and evaluations from audience
Minimum of 12 months
41 —4 programs a month, 2 ~ 3 hours per program (includes travel)
Weekday mornings, aftemoons or evenings; occasional weekends
Varies, within 2 30 minute radius of home/work
‘Avon, Beachwood or Mentor Association office
Public speaking, teaching or training experience
Strong interpersonal skills
Computer literate; comfortable using a laptop & projector
Reliable transportation
Knowledge andlor experience with Alzheimers disease, preferred,
but not required.
