CHAPTER 1

The Problem and It’s Background

Introduction

The world seems to be rapidly evolving towards modernization and continuously

gearing up on becoming a technology–driven planet because of the changes information

technology offers. IT infrastructures have already invaded various facets of our lives.

They have become vital instruments in our activities . More and more establishments,

institutions and organizations both public and private, are instituting IT systems in their

operations to achieve better speed, accuracy and efficiency in the quality of their works .

Obviously, the academe is one of the sectors that if would be granted the appropriate

information systems could benefit most from the modernization brought about by the

technology. And an information system that would eliminate the tedious task of manual

scheduling or time tabling of the availability of faculty, students and classrooms is one of

the greatest contribution that the IT could impart in a school specially in larger

universities where there are vast amount of resources.

The general area of scheduling has been the subject of intense research for a

number of decade. Scheduling and timetabling are typically viewed as two separate

activities, with the term scheduling used as a generic term to cover specific types of

problems in this area. Consequently, timetable construction can be considered as a

special case of generic scheduling activity.

Class scheduling of universities is a large, complex, and time-consuming task.

Along the time line of each, classroom slots must be able to be allocated to instructors

and their classes of different departments without violating any predefined rules or

constraints. Class Scheduling System is a software that improves and speeds up the

process of room utilization and scheduling of classes by making it more accurate,

efficient and suitable to everyone impacted by these processes. The system has features

that can provide a database for storing records and information. It allows the end-user

to add, edit, delete, save and update records or information if some changes occur. It

can generate reports such as class schedule, faculty schedule, room schedule,

instructors list, room list and section list.

Background of the Study

Satellite campuses definitely benefit the community. They target specific

population areas normally underserved by main campuses. They allow more direct

access to higher education for targeted populations. These branch campuses also serve

as a benefit to the main campus. As students utilize services offered at branch

campuses, congestion or overcrowding on the main campus decreases. This means an

ease in parking situations as well as reduced traffic on campus roadways. Further,

branch campuses reduce the commuting costs for faculty, staff and students. The closer

the services, the less time spent on crowded roadways. Finally, the more sites opened to

students, the more students would be given the chance to pursue and finish a

professional degree. Our local is the AMA Computer College at San Roque, Tarlac

College.
Information Technology Innovation

The system will be using the following software and hardware:

Hardware Recommend

Processor Pentium 133MHz processor

Random Access Memory (RAM) 1GB RAM

Storage 2GB of available hard disk space

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)/Data Any compatible WLAN/Data Connectivity

Software Recommended

Operating System Window XP,7,8,10

Database Microsoft's SQL Server Version 7.0

RATIONALE

Aim of this study is to make students/teachers easier to get their schedule, they

can get their schedule in easiest way without going to school. The system is capable of

providing a fast scheduling processes resulting to a better scheduling transaction for the

part of the faculty members but also for the students. This study make the AMA

Computer College more easier to give every student schedule even you are college or
senior high it make easier for the admin and the teacher. To teacher and student make

easier to them because they will search the website of the AMA website and log in and

they will see their schedule if there was announcement they will see it.

Statement of the objective of the Study

The study aimed to achieve the following objectives:

General Objective . The researcher aimed to design the a Online Scheduling System

for the student and teachers.

Specific Objective. Aimed to answer the following objectives of the

research.

1. Design a Online Scheduling System in terms of:

1.1 Time management

1.2 Using Computer System

1.3 Online Website

2. Design a graphical user in interface for the Online Scheduling System in

terms of:

2.1 Simplicity of interface

2.2 Appropriateness of design for each function

2.3 Easy navigation through the different functions

3. Evaluate the system in terms of:

3.1 Ease of use

3.2 Functionality
Scope and Delimitation

The general intent of this study was to design an system for the salary of the

every student and to help the teacher of the school admin.

The system focused on providing the following functions:

 A website will be built in order to improve the process of the

current system. The system is designed for the enhancement or

development of computerized system

 Besides that, they must have password to use the system.

 This website will provide the facilities for the classroom booking

and to provide information on the availability of the class and the

laboratory in the lecture module.

However, the system was limited to the following:

 Students are not allowed to register through the system.

 This system can’t record attendance of every students.

 The system can’t use without internet connection.

Significance of the Study

The researchers aim to create an Computerized Payroll System for use in

company. The study will benefit the following:

To the student’s –They don’t need to go in every room to find their name to

know their schedule.

To the teacher’s – They don’t need waste their time to check the schedule of

every student.
To the school admin’s – The admin don’t need to waste their time to check

schedule and they don’t need to call the student to give their schedule.

Definition of Terms

Appropriateness of design for each function - Suitable or fitting for

a particular purpose.

Ease of use - is the most talked about and least-understood aspect of

software design.

Easy navigation through the different functions - to move from one

part to another of especially by using links.

Functionality - the quality or state of being functional; usefulness.

Simplicity of interface – Simple and easy to use

Time Management - The ability to use one's time effectively or

productively, especially at work.
