school. He even went for army test which he passed. From his childhood, Shawcrose was known
SERIAL KILLERS 2

to be a frequent bed wetter. He later dropped out of school due to his violent acts. This was in the

year 1960.

Shawcrose joined the Army in the year 1967. He divorced his wife by this time. His first

mission was in Vietnam. He boasted of having killed many Vietcong’s to act as warning to

others. After the mission, he was taken to another station known as Fort Sill which was located in

Lawton. After retiring from the army where he was serving, he decided to move to Clayton

which was located in New York. By this time, his wife had threatened to divorce him and this

made him to major in crimes such as arson and burglary.

His first murder and other Criminal Cases

The first murder that he committed was in the year 1972. He was reported to have raped

and killed a 10-year-old boy. The name of the boy was Jack Owen Blake. He lured the boy into

following him to some woods that were located in Watertown. The next murder did not take long

to occur. It was just four months later when he raped and killed another girl. The girl was 8 years

old. The name of his victim was Karen Ann Hill. The girl went to Watertown to visit her mother

when she encountered her death. He was arrested and he accepted the charges. He was

sentenced to a jail term of around 25 years. He only served for less than 15 years and was

released.

In the year 1988, he is reported to have killed a prostitute. The name of the victim was

Dorothy Blackburn. She was only 27 years when she was strangled to death. Local authorities

decided to carry out some investigations regarding the killings. They found out that the killer had

one pattern of killing their victims. The killer had to go back to the scene of the crime (Montaldo,

2018).

Investigations and Arrest of Shawcrose

The local authorities decided to seek some help from the FBI profilers. These are team of

experts who investigate criminals. The profilers said that the killer always went back to the scene

in order to seal the body of the victim. He also went back to the scene just for pleasure. In 1990,

evidence that could lead to the arrest was finally found. Showcase had parked a van beside a

victim’s body that he had killed. He was then arrested and charged with murder. He was

sentenced to 250 years’ imprisonment. The serial killer killed one of the interviewers that was

present during the investigation. The name of the victim was June Stott. The victim was

struggled to death by Shawcrose. Her throat was then cut together with the vaginal parts. The

serial killer said that he had killed the victim because he feared she would expose him.

During the trials, one of the lawyers belonging to Arthur Shawcrose said that he was mad. The

allegations were rejected and he was sentenced to imprisonment. The serial killer passed away in

the year 2008. By the time of his death, he had killed many people. He died at the age of 63 years

(DeLong, 2018).

Juan Vallejo Corona

Birth and Background History

He was born in the year 1950 at a place called Jalisco in Mexico. He was employed at the

age of 16 years. His main work was to pick melons at a place known as Imperial Valley. His half-

brother who was known as Natividad Corona went to California in order to seek some

employment opportunities. There was a large flood that was experienced in the year 1955 in

Yuba. Such a flood had never been seen before in California. Due to the floods, Corona was
SERIAL KILLERS 4

mentally affected. This is because he strongly believed that almost everyone had died due to the

floods. The floods also caused massive destruction of properties. In 1996, his brother took him to

Dewitt State hospital where he received around 23 shock treatments. After a period of three

months, he had recovered and was later deported to Mexico. He illegally went back to the United

States. Corona was reported to have strong relationship with gay and macho.

His Murder and Evidences

In the year 1971, a freshly dug hole was identified in the peach orchard where Corona

was working. The hole was found to be filled when the farmer visited the same spot on the next

day. The farmer summoned the police who began their owned investigations. Inside the whole

was the body of a dead man who was stubbed. The man was also hacked. There were also some

meat recipes that were identified. They contained the signature of Corona. Some deposit slips

that had his details were also found on the same spot. This gave strong evidence that he was a

killer. Corona was silently killing the victims. He is believed to have been carrying them behind

the truck. He had formed a secrete place for killing the victims. He slaughtered them using

knives and machetes.

Arrest and Conviction

In March 1971, a group of police officers were sent to arrest Corona. They went straight

to his house that was located in Yuba. They found a lot of properties that acted as evidence that

the man was a killer. Some of the properties found were machete and knives stained with blood,

a pistol and a cloth that was stained with blood. Corona was given a lawyer to defend him during

his case. The lawyer went ahead to search for a psychiatrist to help and check the condition of

the brain that Corona had. On May 30th 1971, he was moved to a larger prison that was located in
SERIAL KILLERS 5

Marysville. The name of his lawyer was Van den Heuvel. On June 4, approximately 25 bodies

had been found at the spot. This made the court to change the lawyer with another lawyer by the

name Richard Hawk. Richard Hawk was in support of him and he went ahead to disagree with

the issue that he had to accept he was guilty.

Corona complained of chest pain and was diagnosed with heart attack upon arrival at the

hospital. California Supreme Court took over the case one year after the evidences of murder

were discovered. The court had ruled out the issue of death penalty. On January 1973, the judge

found Corona guilty of all the charges that were levelled against him. He was sentenced to 25

terms of life imprisonment. He went to the hospital for further checkups as he waited for the

second trial (Hamilton, 2016).

The second trial happened in the year 1978. This time round, a team of more than 50

defense witnesses was formed. He denied the charges that he had killed the 25 men. However, he

was also questioned about the weapons that were found on his van. In the year 1982, he was

convicted for crimes again. In 1992, he was moved from CTF to Corcoran State Prison. He is

currently serving a life imprison term at Sensitive Needs Yard. He has been denied parole for

over 8 years. In 2021, he will be given another chance to ask for a parole (Juan Corona, 2018).

How Profiling is used to Identify and Capture Serial Killers

Profiling is also known as the analysis of the behaviors of the suspects. It mainly deals

with the psychological set up. This method is mainly used by the FBI to capture criminals. The

analysis of the behavior will be used to create a profile. This profile is then used to connect

unconnected procedures. This method is used because serial killers always have high
SERIAL KILLERS 6

intelligence. They are not very easy to capture (Five Serial Killers Caught Using Criminal

Profiling, 2018).

Randy Stevens’s Kraft

He was born in Long Beach, calif in the year 1945. His mother worked at Kraft’s

elementary school serving on the PTA. Kraft was among the brightest students. In high school he

founded a world club affairs and he had the aspiration to become a U.S senator. He knew he was

gay but kept it as a secret.

Crimes they Perpetrated before becoming Serial Killers

He sexually assaulted and drugged a thirteen year old runaway, Joey Francher. Charges

were not filled because the police searched Kraft’s house with no warranty after being sued by

Joey. Kills from Kraft had signatures, materials such as socks or tree branches were found in the

rectum, he drugged his victims before killing them, sometimes he would remove the eyelids of

the victims during torture and also in some events the left nipple of victims were burnt by an

automobile cigarette lighter. After every killing, he kept a scoreboard of his victims.

How they chose their victims where and how they killed their victims and how they were

caught.

Kraft’s main targets were males of age groups 13 and 35 who were mostly enlisted in the

marines. He captured his victims especially those in the military hitching to or from their bases.
SERIAL KILLERS 7

He promised some a place to stay and also picked up gays from bars. Victims were mainly killed

by being strangled, being shot or torturing them to death. Kraft was pulled over for driving

erratically. The police found the body of a strangled person which was enough evidence that led

to his arrest (2018).

Jeffrey Dahmer

Born in United States in 1960. The parents were Joyce Annette and Lionel Herbert and

Dahmer was the first of the two sons born. During his childhood he was denied attention by the

parents. Dahmer developed interest in animals that in some occasions he assembled the carcasses

of dead animals after which he dismembered them. Dahmer was fond of collecting large insects.

This behavior was known by many students that were hanging around him.

When he was in high school, he was rarely seen walking with a group of friends. The

worst part is that he was using both alcohol and hard drugs. When the classmates asked why he

was consuming alcohol in class, he normally replied that it was his medicine. This behavior

made most people to think negative about him. When he was a teenager, he realized that he was a

homosexual. He did not disclose this to his parents. He had constantly wanted to sexually abuse a

young man by the name Jogger. He used to hide inside some bushes mainly on the path that the

young man used to follow. In fact, this was the first time that he attempted to attack someone.

First Murder

The first murder committed by Dahmer was at the age of 18. By this time, his father had

divorced her mother and he was living alone in the house. He decided to lure a youth by the

name Hicks to his house. He was a hitchhiker. He had been doing this for a long period of time at
SERIAL KILLERS 8

a place called Lockwood corners. They drank and danced until time came for them to leave. Hick

also wanted to leave but Dahmer was not with the opinion. He hit Hick twice on the back using a

dumbbell. This made Hick to sit on the chair. He used the bar of the dumbbell to struggle Hick to

death. He stood close to the corpse masturbating. He dissected the body and later buried him in a

shallow grave that was located in the backyard. He later joined the U.S army after the murder.

He had committed subsequent murders. On 20 November 1987, he met a 25 year old guy.

The name of the guy was Steven Tuomi. Dahmer had no intention of killing the young man. He

just wanted to give him drugs until he felt unconscious. After that, he would go ahead and rape

him. However, the following morning Dahmer woke up and found out that Tuomi had blood

stains all over his body. He disposed the body by transporting it to his grandmother’s place using

a suitcase. He then divide the body into parts that were very easy to handle. He placed the head

on a separate place. He disposed the rest on the body parts and kept the head for two weeks. He

wanted to use the head as a stimulant for masturbation. Dahmer searched for many victims

immediately after the death of Tuomi. He handled the body of the victims in the same manner

that he handled that of Tuomi.

Arrest and Conviction

The incident began when he had invited some three people to his house to drink beer and

enjoy. However, only one of the victims agreed to follow him to his house. The name of the

victim was Edwards. He wanted to sexually harass the victim as this was one of his tricks. He

tied the victim with handcuffs and ordered that she pose for nude photos. The victim was later

able to escape and alert the police. Dahmer had no option but to inform the police where he had

kept the keys for opening the handcuffs. Dahmer confessed that indeed he was responsible for
SERIAL KILLERS 9

the murder of the victims. In the year 1991, he was charged with the murder of 11 victims. He

was charged with four murder cases. In 1991, Dahmer had confessed everything to the police. He

was later imprisoned. In the year 1992, he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment (Pmalatesta,

2015). Dahmer died in 1994. He had left his cell to go and attend to his daily duties. He was

found with many injuries on his body. He laid down helpless. After a period of around one hour,

he was pronounced dead. After the death of Dahmer, his estates were divided among the families

of 11 victims.
