CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES

CHAPTER Recruitment,
2 Selection and
Induction

Individual Assignment
This assignment requires students to collect job advertisements from various sources, such as print
media, online agencies and company websites. Ask them to analyze the type of information included
(key items from the job description, specification, terms and conditions of employment, how to apply,
etc.) and to decide whether they find the advertisement attractive or not.
If the students are undertaking a programme in a specific professional or specialized discipline, such
as accounting or mass communications, etc., they could be required to look for job advertisements
that relate to this discipline only.

Group Assignment
Divide the class into groups. Half of the groups may be required to make a list of characteristics
of effective job interviewers and the other half may examine the characteristics of ineffective job
interviewers. The groups’ points should be presented to the class for comparison.
