IE464 - Human Factors Engineering Fall 2016

Course credit: 12 units (3 lecture-hours + 2 lab-hours) - Corequisites: IE332, IE352, IE364.


Class time: Sun 13:30-15:30 and Wed 14:30-15:30.
Course instructor: Ahmad Altaboli.

Course Description and Objective

This course introduces students to the field of human factors and ergonomics. The main objectives of
the course include giving the students a broad overview of the interests of the field, and to give them the
basic knowledge and skills required to effectively evaluate and design products, jobs and systems to fit
human use.
Course topics cover key aspects of human factors and ergonomics; including design consideration of
humans’ limited physical and cognitive capabilities, and effects of social and organizational factors.

Two midterm exams will be given in the class time. The 1st exam will be on Sun 28/8/2016 and the 2nd
exam on Sun 9/10/2016.

The following approximate weights will be employed in grade determination:

Midterm Exams 50% (25% each)


Final Exam 40%
In class participation, Homework, assignments and quizzes 10%
