INTRODUCTION
Good morning, dear brothers and sisters in Christ!
Saint Michael College has a rich heritage of more than 100 years of humble yet noble
beginnings, a long standing tradition of excellence and spirituality. The
accomplishments and contributions of the Michaelinian family, specifically students,
faculty, staff, alumni and friends, form the basis of this tradition that has made a
positive impact on and lasting differences in our communities. While the institution
we know today as Saint Michael College has evolved, adapted and innovated, it has
done so because of the illustrious men and women whose unwavering faith in God
enabled them to offer their lives in faithful service to the vision, mission and ideals of
the institution.
Today marks another milestone in the noble history of our alma mater – the solemn
installation of Rev. Fr. Philipp Vincent G. Montenegro, DCT as the school’s 16 th
School Director. Following the lead of those who have gone before him, and with
sure faith in Divine Providence, we believe and pray that Fr. Philipp will continue to
keep our vision strongly rooted in our Catholic identity, spirituality, and character
defined by credible Christian witnessing and an education that is faithfully anchored
on gospel values; thus, bring SMC ever nearer the frontier of education for justice,
social transformation and evangelization. May the charity of Christ urge us now and
forever!
Let us all stand and sing the entrance hymn.

t THE LITURGY OF THE WORD t

First Reading

Reader: A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians.

And he gave some as apostles,

others as prophets, others as evangelists,
others as pastors and teachers,
to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry,
for building up the body of Christ,
until we all attain to the unity of faith
and knowledge of the Son of God,
to mature manhood,
to the extent of the full stature of Christ,
so that we may no longer be infants,
tossed by waves and swept along
by every wind of teaching arising from human trickery,
from their cunning in the interests of deceitful scheming.
Rather, living the truth in love,
we should grow in every way
into him who is the head, Christ,
from whom the whole body,
joined and held together by every supporting ligament,
with the proper functioning of each part,
brings about the body’s growth
and builds itself up in love.

Reader: The Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

The Lord is my Shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. (2x)

1. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.

2. He guides me in right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil;
for you are at my side with your rod and your staff
that give me courage.

3. You spread the table before me

in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

4. Only goodness and kindness follow me

all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
for years to come.

Commentator: Let us all stand to honor the holy Gospel.

ALLELUIA or Gospel Acclamation (sung)

Gospel

P: The Lord be with you.

A: And with your spirit.

P: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John.

A: Glory to you, O Lord.

When they had finished breakfast,

Jesus said to Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
He then said to him a second time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
He said to him the third time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time,
“Do you love me?” and he said to him,
“Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”
[Jesus] said to him, “Feed my sheep.

P: The Gospel of the Lord.

A: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Commentator: Please be seated and listen to the homily.

t RITE OF INSTALLATION t

Commentator: At this moment, we will witness the Solemn Rite of

Installation of Rev. Fr. Philipp Vincent G. Montenegro,
DCT as the 16th School Director of Saint Michael
College.

INTRODUCTION OF THE PRESIDENT

A member of the faculty reads a brief resume of the new School Director.

After the introduction, the School Director proceeds in front of the altar.

Commentator: Please all stand.

INTERROGATION

BISHOP: Rev. Fr. Philipp Vincent G. Montenegro,

you have been appointed as School Director
of Saint Michael College,
and now have the responsibility of ensuring
that it is centered on Christ
and that every member of the school community
is valued as an individual
who is loved and gifted uniquely by God.
We look to you to provide
the best possible learning environment
so that each student can develop
knowledge and skills for life as a Christian.
Will you accept that responsibility?

DIRECTOR: I will, with the help of God.

The Bishop addresses the teaching, administrative and non-teaching staff present.

BISHOP: Dear Teachers and Staff of the school,

8

will you now support your new School Director

in his responsibilities
and help him to maintain
the Catholic ethos of the school?

TEACHERS/STAFF: We will, with the help of God.

The Bishop then addresses the students present.

BISHOP: Dear children,

will you do your best in every way
to help Rev. Fr. Philipp Vincent in his work
as your School Director?

STUDENTS: We will, with the help of God.

PROFESSION OF FAITH & OATH OF FIDELITY

BISHOP: Rev. Fr. Philipp Vincent, remember,

always be a wise teacher of your people,
so that you may lead them to Christ
who will strengthen all that you do.
As a teacher of the faith,
I ask you now to profess your faith.

PROFESSION OF FAITH

The School Director faces the people and leads them in the profession of faith (The Nicene Creed).

School Director:

I, __________, with firm faith believe and profess each and everything
that is contained in the Symbol of faith, namely:
9

School Director and People:

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all
things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only
Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God,
Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us
men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy
Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he
was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and
rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended
into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come
again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no
end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored
and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy,
catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of
sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the
world to come. Amen.

At the conclusion of the profession, the Director faces the bishop and recites the following oath.

School Director:

With firm faith, I also believe everything contained in the word of God,
whether written or handed down in Tradition, which the Church, either by
a solemn judgment or by the ordinary and universal Magisterium, sets forth
to be believed as divinely revealed.

I also firmly accept and hold each and everything definitively proposed by
the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals.

Moreover, I adhere with religious submission of will and intellect to the

teachings which either the Roman Pontiff or the College of Bishops
10

enunciate when they exercise their authentic Magisterium, even if they do

not intend to proclaim these teachings by a definitive act.

The Director places his hand on the Book of the Gospels and recites the Oath of Fidelity:
.
OATH OF FIDELITY

I, _________, in assuming the office of Director of Saint Michael College,

promise that in my words and in my actions I shall always preserve
communion with the Catholic Church.

With great care and fidelity I shall carry out the duties incumbent on me
toward the Church, both universal and particular, in which, according to
the provisions of the law, I have been called to exercise my service.

In fulfilling the charge entrusted to me in the name of the Church, I shall

hold fast to the deposit of faith in its entirety; I shall faithfully hand it on
and explain it, and I shall avoid any teachings contrary to it.

I shall follow and foster the common discipline of the entire Church and I
shall maintain the observance of all ecclesiastical laws, especially those
contained in the Code of Canon Law.

With Christian obedience I shall follow what the Bishops, as authentic

doctors and teachers of the faith, declare, or what they, as those who
govern the Church, establish. I shall also faithfully assist the diocesan
Bishops, so that the apostolic activity, exercised in the name and by
mandate of the Church, may be carried out in communion with the
Church.

So help me God, and God’s Holy Gospels on which I place my hand.

11

PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

The Bishop addresses the whole assembly present.

BISHOP: Christian leadership is a solemn trust.

I therefore call on you all
to pray for Rev. Fr. Philipp Vincent,
that God will give him the grace to be faithful
to all his responsibilities.

Lord, hear our prayer.

1. For Francis, our pope, Raul, our bishop, and all the other bishops of
the Church, that they may lead us to a more faithful living of the
gospel, we pray to the Lord.

2. For Rev. Fr. Philipp Vincent Montenegro, our new school director,
that he may always show us leadership, love and compassion, we pray
to the Lord.

3. For all who contribute their time and talent to this school, that their
service to the Church may help us to know the message of Christ, we
pray to the Lord.

4. For peace and justice in the world and for the conversion of those
who have hardened their hearts to the needs of their brothers and
sisters, we pray to the Lord.

5. For students, that the Spirit of God may grant them the gifts of
wisdom and understanding, let us pray to the Lord.

6. For teachers, that they may share their knowledge with gentleness,
patience, and concern for their students, let us pray to the Lord.
12

7. For the parents and other family members who make so many
sacrifices on behalf of these students to receive a Catholic education,
that they may be blessed by God in return, let us pray to the Lord.

The Bishop then extends his hands over the School Director.

BISHOP: Lord, pour out your Spirit on your servant.

Give him your gifts of grace.
Guide him with the Spirit of wisdom.
Direct him with the Spirit of understanding.
Endow him with the Spirit of counsel.
Strengthen him with the Spirit of power.
Fill him with the Spirit of knowledge.
Gladden him with the love, joy and peace
which the Spirit brings.

God our Father,

your Son told us to pray
that we might receive the Holy Spirit.
We now ask that this same Holy Spirit
will strengthen, protect and guide Rev. Fr. Philipp.
May he worthily fulfill
the responsibilities given to him.
Grant him ability in teaching,
tolerance in relationships,
patience in listening,
skill in managing,
wisdom and vision in all things.
May he lead his school community each day
in the ways of truth, love and justice.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

ALL: Amen.
The Bishop puts on the miter.

HYMNS FOR THE PREPARATION OF GIFTS

Commentator: Please stand (rise).

P: Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters) that my sacrifice and yours may be
acceptable to God, the almighty Father.

A: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his
name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

Prayer over the Offerings

P: For the gifts you have bestowed, O Lord,

we offer you the sacrifice of praise,
humbly begging
that what you have conferred upon us in our unworthiness
we may give back, to the glory of your name.
Through Christ our Lord.

A: Amen.
15

Preface

P: The Lord be with you.

A: And with your spirit.

P: Lift up your hearts.

A: We lift them up to the Lord.

P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

A: It is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,

always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God.

For, although you have no need of our praise,

yet our thanksgiving is itself your gift,
since our praises add nothing to your greatness
but profit us for salvation,
through Christ our Lord.

And so, in company with the choirs of Angels,

we praise you, and with joy we proclaim:

SANCTUS (sung)

Commentator: Please kneel.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness. Make holy, therefore, these
gifts, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they
may become for us the Body and + Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his Passion, he took bread and,
giving thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: TAKE THIS, ALL OF
YOU, AND EAT OF IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH WILL BE GIVEN
UP FOR YOU.
16

In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and, once more giving
thanks, he gave it to his disciples, saying: TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND
DRINK FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD, THE
BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE
POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF
SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.

P: The mystery of faith.

ACCLAMATION (sung)

Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his Death and Resurrection, we offer you,
Lord, the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held
us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that, partaking
of the Body and Blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church, spread throughout the world, and bring her to the
fullness of charity, together with Francis our Pope and Raul our Bishop and all the
clergy.

Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the
resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy: welcome them into the light of
your face. Have mercy on us all, we pray, that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother
of God, with blessed Joseph, her spouse, with the blessed Apostles, and all the Saints
who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.

P: Through him, and with him, and in him, O God, almighty Father, in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, for ever and ever.

A: Amen (Sung)

Commentator: Please stand.

17

all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus
Christ.

A: For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. (sung)

Sign of Peace

P: Lord Jesus Christ who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I
give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously
grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for
ever and ever.

A: Amen.

P: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

A: And with your spirit.

19

t THE CONCLUDING RITES t

the saving Sacrament of your Son,
which we have offered you in thanksgiving,
grant that, being strengthened by gifts of courage and joy,
we may serve you more devotedly
and be worthy of still further blessings.
Through Christ our Lord.
