profiles: angles, channels & flats

1.0 SCOPE

This specification covers the technical requirements

for the production and supply of DuraGal® Angles,
Channels and Flats, referred to in this specification
as DuraGal® Profiles. These profiles are produced by
cold forming and in-line galvanizing, low carbon
steel strip. This product is intended for general
engineering and structural uses.

Note:

(1) The Profile shape is manufactured from hot

rolled strip. During the forming process, all
surface areas are mechanically and chemically
cleaned to AS1627 Class 3 standard, and then
coated by hot dip, in-line galvanising.

2) The durability performance of DuraGal® is

influenced by micro-environments which vary
from site to site. In highly corrosive environments
it is recommended that a suitable barrier
coating, (eg paint or powder coating) be
applied over the galvanized surface, and
that the application of such coating be fully DURAGAL® PROFILES COATING SYSTEM
in accordance with the supplier’s
recommendations with regard to surface
pretreatment, application, curing and
maintenance of the coating. (Refer “DuraGal®
Painting and Corrosion Protection Guide”
and AS/NZS 2312 “Guide to the Protection of
Iron and Steel against Exterior Atmospheric
Corrosion”).

6.19 Surface Protection and Handling

The profile shall be coated with a polymer layer,
designed to protect the metal from atmospheric
corrosion when stored in mild, moderate or tropical
conditions for at least three months from time of
delivery.
Note (1): Mild, moderate or tropical environments
are defined in the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2312.
Care should be taken in transit and in storage of
DuraGal® Profiles to keep them clean, presentable
and suitable for sale. Refer to the “DuraGal® Profiles
Recommended Storage, Handling and Transport
Guide”.
Note (2): The polymer coat is not readily removable
in normal galvanising pretreatment systems.

6.20 Any Other Special Requirements

Any other requirements not covered by the above
clauses should be subject to enquiry prior to
placement of order.
Note: The measurement of cross section dimensions
are to be checked at a distance of 10” from the ends
of the section, to allow for the effect of residual
stress relief on cutting. For the measurement of
straightness and twist, the section is laid to rest
under its own weight on a flat and level surface.

6.21 Means for Determining Compliance

Compliance to the requirements of this specification
is covered under the OneSteel Market Mills Quality
System plan maintained under AS3902/ISO 9002.
Any special requirements need to be agreed
between the customer and OneSteel Market Mills,
and should include a quality inspection and test
plan to ensure product conformity.

7.0 Control
No changes to this document can be made without
the approval of Vice President - Marketing OneSteel
Market Mills.
