16th August 2018

TELEPHONE CALL X NOTE FOR FILE MEETING RECORD OTHER

1- Upon BSBG’s investigation, it was found that AFC currently uses three types of vibrators at site as detailed in below
table.

Poker Qnty Diameter Head Vibration BSBG Remarks

@ site Length
2 65 mm 490mm 12000/min Not suitable
3 58mm 400mm 12000/min Not suitable
3 38mm 345mm 12000/min Suitable
0 30mm 353mm 12000/min Suitable

2- For typical columns: In consideration of the rebar impediment, the use of 38mm diameter poker heads is
suggestive as per ACI 309R-96 to Table 5.1.5, Group 2.

Indicative of Group 2, column 7, 38mm poker shall yield ~202mm & 30mm poker shall yield 1.50mm radius of action
hence position of the pokers is below recommended.

3- Immerse vibrators should be inserted as quickly as possible and withdrawn gradually with a series of up and down
motions., the poker should be held stationary in about 15 -20 Sec at each immersion point and kept strictly in a
vertical position.

4- In deep sections such as walls, footings and columns the concrete should be placed in layers around 300-500 mm
thick. The vibrator should penetrate about 150 mm in to the previous layer of fresh concrete. For a typical 4m column,
it is advisable to have 8 layers of concrete placement.

5- Vibrator immersion spacing shall follow a square pattern with Max spacing of 1.5 x radius of action (refer to no. 2.)

6- The vibrator shall be kept 50 mm away from form face at all time.

8- Compaction Visual Acceptance Criteria:

- Concrete Surface – shinning Appearance

- Large air bubbles no longer escape
- Vibration change Pitch or tone

Additional Note:

On columns and walls where surface finish is of importance, there is sometimes a tendency for blowholes to occur in
the top 600 mm of a lift; the reason is that, unlike the lower layers, this top layer does not have the advantage of the
weight of additional concrete on top to increase the compaction. It can often help to revibrate the top 500 mm
within the first 15 minute after the initial compaction.
