PREAMBLE

Arasu Engineering College, Which began its maiden voyage on 3rd of August 2000,is named after the
founder Mr.R.Thirunavukkarasu, the great philanthropist and industrialist and his wife under the
banner of Sri Thirunavukkarasu Dhanalakshmi Educational and Charitable Trust. The Institution
aims at achieving academic excellence in the field of Higher Education. It renders its reliable
services to the cause of improving the quality of life of our people with special priority to the
betterment of rural students.

The Institution has reputation for high standards of discipline and is doing its best to achieve good
results. Though in her infancy, the college has all qualities, which would make it bloom into a No.1
Institution.

Arasu Engineering College is situated on the Kumbakonam - Chennai Main Road. Kumbakonam, the
famous temple town is an important centre of Education, Arts and Crafts from time immemorial.

Set in a serene and lovely landscape and sufficiently away from the madding crowd and bustle of
heavy traffic, the college provides a peaceful and conducive atmosphere to learn and live in. Another
special feature of the college is that both fresh air and pure water are available in abundance in the
campus.
College was started in the year 2001 with 3 courses (ECE, CSE, IT). EEE Course was started in the
year 2002.Mechanical course was started in the year 2005 and civil course was started in the year
2007.At present this college offers 6 UG Courses.
To reach the pinnacle of perfection, the institution delves deep into the ways and means of
augmenting the excellence both in academic and software area of the student community.

About the department

The department of information technology was started in the year 2001 with the aim of catering to
the needs for eminent IT professionals in the nation’s march towards digital era. The vision of the
department is to excel as one of the top global technical sector & to provide well trained
Professionals to industries and to efficiently mould engineer's knowledge with theory and practice
using teaching dexterity utilizing the latest practical experiments and software. The information
Technologist has greater opportunities in Software Development because of
their excellent knowledge of Web Technology.

About the Department

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering blossomed as one of the premier center for
computer education in the year 2001. The department started its mission of imparting quality
technical education with the first batch of 45 students. Since then the department has grown steadily
to to-day's student strength of 240 with an annual intake of 60. Department of Computer Science and
Engineering (CSE) is one of the most dynamic departments in the college. As the field of computing
plays an increasingly major role in practically all disciplines, we are poised for exciting growth.
Highly qualified and experienced faculty with specialization in Networking, Algorithms, Data
Mining, Mobile Computing, Grid Computing, Cluster Computing, Image Processing, Software
Engineering, Natural language processing, Database management Systems, Automata Theory,
Computer graphics, Web Technology, Embedded systems, Evolutionary computing etc. are available
The Department has organized a national conference on “Mobile Wireless Middleware Operating
systems and Applications” funded by the All India Council for Technical Education and has been
organizing many symposia and guest lectures. The Department is organizing a National Level
Technical Symposium CZEFE every year for the students to improve their technical skills and their
organizing skills. This event receives overwhelming response from the students of various colleges
in India.
Laboratory Facilities
The Department has well equipped laboratories with internet facilities (8 MBPS) through leased line.
The laboratories include Object Oriented Programming lab, Java Programming Lab, Operating
System and Networking Lab, Systems Programming Lab, Software Engineering Lab, Visual
Programming Lab, Multimedia and Graphics Lab.
The laboratory is equipped with higher end blade server and 360 Pentium IV high end computers

with LCD monitors. It also acts as a resource centre to supplement classroom instructions with
laboratory sessions. Software such as .Net, Visual Studio, Oracle, IBM rational suite, Net Beans 4.0,
Macromedia with Adobe Flash and Turbo C& C++, are available with the operating system
Windows 2000 professional, Windows XP professional, RedHat Linux 9.0 Pro CD and Fedora Core
1. The computer center has centralized air-conditioner, state-of-the-art facilities with adequate power
backup. In addition to this, all the students of the department are provided with Notebook PC with
Wi Fi connectivity.

Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) is a swiftly advancing field, with new ideas
emerging every other second. From mobile phones to fiber optics and remote sensing, there are
exciting avenues to explore and create. The ECE department at ARASU Engineering College
prepares students for careers in this constantly evolving discipline. The Department of Electronics
and Communication Engineering came into existence in the year 2001-2002. Ever since its inception,
it has been splendid in providing dynamic and quality engineers to the society till date., and in
enhancing the laboratory facilities to cope up with the new developments in the state-of art
technologies. The Electronics and Communication laboratories are constantly upgraded with new
equipments.

The Department of Electrical and electronics Engineering was established in the year 2002-2003
with the intake of 60. It is recognized by AICTE and affiliated to Anna University, Tiruchirappalli.
The Department is accredited by National Board of Accreditation ( NBA),New Delhi for 3 years
since 2009.

The Department has well-defined curriculum with due exposure towards latest innovation and
advancement in the field of Electrical, electronics and computer Engineering application at both
introductory and advanced levels. The students are trained to analyse almost all electrical and
electronics equipments, the theory behind their operation, their design, their procedure of
maintenance, services etc.,

The department has the privilege to have the principal belonging to Electrical and Electronics
engineering discipline. The laboratories are so designed that the students can practically test what
they study in theory.

The Department strives to keep in pace with the growing technology by conducting seminars,
workshop, student symposiums, conferences, technical discussions and special lectures by eminent
people from industry and also from well reputed institutions. The Department has vast library apart
from the central library to improve the knowledge of the students and the staff.

Every year ENGETRAN, AERO (Advanced Electrical Research Organization), a National Level
Technical conference festival and EEE Association activities are organized The Counseling is given
to the week students by their respective Class in charges and Faculty advisors.
In every Semester In plant Training and Industrial Visits are arranged for the students for the
betterment of practical knowledge.

The Department has advanced Laboratories including Project Lab, Electrical machines I Lab and
Electrical Machines II Lab. To ensure continuous usability of computers to the students all the
computers have a backup with Uninterrupted power Supply (UPS) up to 3 hours. Essential Legal
software with license is provided in all systems to aid the academic and University curriculum.

They are well structured with special machines and equipments with all protective provisions and
help students keep abreast with current developments in Electrical Engineering.

About the Department:
The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the academic year
2005-‘06 with an approved intake of 60 students. From the inception, the department is growing
constantly towards the objective and it is providing an excellent infrastructure with well equipped
laboratories aiming for the development of student community with the latest technical knowledge,
good leadership qualities and sprit of competence.

The Department Library:

Apart from the college main library, the department library is stuffed with latest
editions of referred technical books and cherished with a number of valuable collections of referred
journals and back volumes. The library consists of both reference section and a section for lending
books and journals to the students and staffs.
The Students’ Association:
The mechanical engineering students’ association is functioning under the banner
“MECHZEAL” in order to develop the multi-personality skill of the students. The students
association is regularly conducting various workshops, seminars, conference, etc. to cope up the
students with the latest technological advancements. Frequently, experts from various fields are
invited to the department for sharing their experience and knowledge with the students. The students
are encouraged and guided to present technical papers in the conferences conducted by the other
colleges.

In-plant Training and Industrial Visits:

The students are motivated to undergo the in-plant training and industrial visits which
are being arranged by the department during their vacation period in order to get the industrial
exposure.
Research and Development Activities:
Various research works have been undertaken by the department in the fields of
internal combustion engines, pollution and its control, renewable energy sources and alternative
fuels. The department is providing all the required facilities for the students to do their project work
inside the college campus. Our students won number of prizes in the national level project
competitions conducted by the various universities and organizations.

The Laboratories:
o The Basic Workshop is having enough equipments and tools to accommodate all first
year students. It consists of carpentry section, fitting section, welding section, sheet metal
working section, plumbing section and basic electrical and electronics section.
o The Lathe Shop consists of all production type lathes with required tools and
accessories.
o The Special Machine Shop consists of shaping machine, slotting machine, surface
grinding machine, tool and cutter grinder, all types of milling machines, sensitive drilling
machine, radial drilling machine, universal drilling machine, etc.
 o The Thermal Engineering Lab consists of various types of heat engines for
conducting the performance and emission tests in internal combustion engines. Also it
consists number of equipments including boiler for evaluating the behaviour of heat transfer
phenomenon.
o The Metrology lab, Dynamics lab, Fluid Mechanics and Machinery lab, Strength
of Materials lab available are playing major role for the students to understand the
engineering concepts clearly.
o The CAD/CAM lab is supported with enough number of computers with latest
configurations. Latest mechanical softwares like solidworks, hyperworks available in the lab
enhances the modelling and analysing skills of the students. Heavy duty CNC production
lathe is an added feather to this lab.

engineering like Building Construction, Water Resource Engineering, Estimating and Costing,
Environmental Engineering , Transportation Engineering, Survey Engineering etc.,

formed to train the first year students thoroughly in these basic core subjects. A strong foundation is
laid during this year for the successful assimilation of engineering knowledge. These specialist

human responsibility, leadership skills and decision making abilities. The chief aim of the
department is to strive for all round development of the students to prepare them to face real world.
Every faculty of this department is committed to make this aim and aspirations a reality.

To cater to the impending need of rejuvenating the “just-from-school” students, the Department of
Science & Humanities leaves no stone unturned in the task of achieving the target. Shaping and
moulding the students to suit the atmosphere of technical education is a must. This arduous
assignment is being accomplished here in our institution to the maximum level.

Language Laboratory

Apart from academic qualifications, an engineer needs sound communication skills in order to face
the fast developing technical world. With this objective in mind, a unique language lab is set with a
60 user capacity. The new compact language improver enables our students to master spoken
English of any accent either British English or American English. The training enhances the students
in increasing learning efficiency and productivity promote accurate pronunciation, accent modulation
and improve communication skills practice. This systematic training provides confidence in the
students and provide their learning of their body language, gesticulation, combining expressions and
speech. The students are exposed to social circumstances which are present in conversations.
Importance is given to the pronunciation, stress, pause and the etiquettes which a native speaker
expects from us. From these training students can develop their dialogue delivery, vocabulary,
fluency and stylish English, to improve their ability and knowledge level which would enable them
to be placed in renowned companies.

Language Lab

Library
The pride of the institution is the central library, which caters to the insatiable knowledge thirst of the
voracious readers. It provides a serene atmosphere for deeper and concentrator study. The library has
been fully automated with the application of Barcode Technology and houses separate sections for
General books, References, Periodicals and Catalogues. At present it has a collection of 14,000
volumes of text and reference books to meet the requirements as per the latest syllabi of Anna
University. It subscribes to a large number of dailies and journals, both national and international in
various subjects. Open Access System is

(OPAC) service is made available to all staff and

prominent part of the institution.
The institution has provided all the
facilities for the effective functioning of the cell. Trainings like soft skills development, technical
skills development, personality development, and career development are organized throughout the

The Latest forum for developing the entrepreneuring process has been set up under the chairmanship
of our principal. It caters to the needs of the young Technocrats who are enthusiastic to employ
rather than being employed.

Even during the vicissitudes due to economic recession, the role of this valuable forum is in great
demand.

Housed in an area of 45 acres plinth area, the college offers its students infrastructure facilities on the

The institution provides excellent, Air conditioned, Well-furnished and comfortable hostel
accommodation separately for outstation boys and girls. Delicious, nutritious and well balanced food
is served in the mess. A homely environment is provided with common sit-outs for indoor Games,
watching T.V., reading magazines, newspaper etc., The special features of the hostel are the
protected aqua guard drinking water, hot water for bath, hygienic bathrooms and generator supply as
a stand by for electricity. Deputy Wardens for each hostel take care of maintenance of discipline,

1. ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION

Candidates who fulfill the following conditions in respect of marks in qualifying examination,
number of appearances, age limit etc., are eligible to apply for admission to the above courses.
A) Marks: The minimum marks prescribed in the HSC/equivalent examinations as per
government norms. A pass with 60% average marks in relevant subjects for OC; 55% for BC;
50% for MBC/DNC and mere pass for SC/ST. The same for Diploma holders.
B) Lateral Entry: A limited seats are available for those who have passed the Diploma for
direct admission to the second year of B.E Degree course in their respective branches in which
they pursued their Diploma. Eligibility of marks in the same as above in V and VI semesters.

2. APPLICATION FORM:
Application forms are available at the College Office on payment of Rs.200 in cash or crossed DD in
favour of of ARASU ENGINEERING COLLEGE, KUMBAKONAM. Those who wish to get the
application form by post should send a requisition letter indicating clearly the postal address along
with a DD for Rs.225/-.

3. INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:
Applications are advised to adhere to the following instructions while filling up the application form.

A) Application form should be filled only in English.

B) Candidates should satisfy themselves in respect of eligibility before registering the
application.
C) Every application should be accompanied with required documents. Only attested copies of
the following should attached with the application form. Originals Need Not Be Sent.
However, the original certificates should be submitted to the college at the time of admission.

considered for admission.
E) Candidates who furnish incorrect and wrong information will be severely dealt with and their
admission will be cancelled irrespective of at what stage of the course he/she is in, at the point of
time, besides legal action.

4. CANDIDATES FROM OUTSIDE TAMILNADU

In addition to the documents mentioned earlier, candidates from outside TamilNadu should attach
an Eligibility Certificate obtained from Anna University, Trichy of selected, they should apply to
the above University for registration in the prescribed form within 15 days from the date of their
admission.

 Certain numbers of seats in each branch are available for NRI students under certain conditions.

Last date for submission of filled up application to the college office is 10 days from the date of
publication of +2 results.
