encouraging, friendly group of people. While we don’t make any claims
to be perfect, at our church we come together to help make the kingdom
of God a reality on earth by loving God and loving our neighbor.
For Our Youngest Friends and Their Parents
A professionally staffed nursery is available for children birth through
age three during all services and Sunday School on the lower level. An
usher will be happy to direct you. Additionally, a Parent Room is
available in the Parlor adjacent to the Sanctuary, for viewing and
hearing all services. Please ask an usher to show you the way. All
restrooms are equipped with changing tables.
Aldersgate At … Evening Sunset at Carter Mountain
Thursday, September 27 - 5:30 to 8:30pm
Join us for an evening filled with live music and the best sunset
anywhere! It’s free admission so bring your lawn chairs or a blanket.
This is a great evening to gather together in fellowship and to watch a
lovely sunset with friends and family. This is also a wonderful event for
families. Because this is a free venue, it would be a nice gesture to
support our local food vendors on the premises. For more information,

“Aldersgate At…” is to create an opportunity for our members, friends,
families, and guests to meet one another for fellowship and fun. We

Sunday Children's Worship
During 9am and 11am Services
Calling all children! Sunday September 9th, children 3 years old through
5th grade are invited to come and be a part of our new Children's Worship
time downstairs following the Children's Message. There they will have
opportunities to encounter God through scripture, music, prayers, and
other meaningful and fun ways. Elementary-age children will return to
the sanctuary and gather with the congregation for the benediction each
week. At 9am, Pre-Schoolers move to their 10:10am Sunday School

Children's Sunday School
Sunday School, a time of bible discovery with friends, invites all children
to come and learn at 10:10am. Lynn Bremer leads the elementary class
(Room 106) and Sherry Bryant leads our all new Preschool/Kindergarten
class (Room 110). Classrooms are found in the Education Wing.
Is God Calling You?
Adult volunteers are needed to share their hearts and talents with the
children of Aldersgate. Have you ever wondered how you might make a
difference in the life of a child? Have you ever wondered what small
part you might be able to play in Children's Ministry? Helpers are
needed each Sunday morning at 9am & 10am. If you want to hear more

Children’s Ministry Team
The next Children's Ministry Committee Meeting will be Monday,
October 1st at 7:30pm. This will be a time of shared conversation,

Staff Openings at Aldersgate Church
Church Administrator needed -
On behalf of Aldersgate’s Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), we
share our church administrator, Amy O’Brien, was recently offered an
opportunity for a career change. Amy feels led by God to accept that
opportunity, and so her last day will be Friday, October 5, 2018. When
Amy shared the news with us she also shared what a blessing it has
been to work here and talked about many of the wonderful people and
how thankful she is to have had the opportunity to serve the
congregation. We deeply appreciate Amy’s service to our church for the
past 11 years; and as she leaves us, we send our prayers, gratitude, love,
and good wishes with her and her daughter, Erin.
Amy's move brings with it a need to fill that position, if you are
interested or know someone that may be interested in learning more

Kitchen Coordinator needed -
Elizabeth Peterson has served as our Kitchen Coordinator for the past
three years and her time as coordinator will end September 30,
2018. Her time, energy and dedication to the position is appreciated
and we thank her for all she has done! Please join us Sunday October 7,

last three years.

Save the Date! Children’s Nativity
All children and youth are invited to participate in our Children's
Nativity, "ON THE ROAD TO BETHLEHEM", which will be held on
Saturday, December 15th. There will be speaking roles for all ages along
with traditional carols and also a few new songs. We will have our first
rehearsal on Monday 9/24 from 5:45 to 7:45pm for 3rd graders thru High
School. Dinner will be provided. Younger children are encouraged to be
in the Nativity, too, so if you have a 4 year old thru 2nd grade child who

Joyful Noise Singers
Children (grades 3-6) are invited to gather in the Sanctuary from 12:15-
12:30 (by the organ after 11am service) with Rafael. This will be a time
for the children to learn more about music and rehearse for upcoming

A Service for the Blessing of Animals
Sunday, October 7th at 3:00pm
A Blessing of Animals at Aldersgate Church on Sunday, October 7th at
3:00pm witnesses to God's and the church's love, care, and concern for
creation and recognizes our mutual interdependence with all of God's
creatures. This service is designed for all ages, including children. It will
be held outdoors in the lower parking lot, weather permitting, to allow
for larger animals, including horses or other livestock, to be present.
Favorite toy animals also are welcome. The service will be celebrated
near the Feast Day of Francis of Assisi, October 4th.

NEX-GEN Virginia Conference
Youth Fall Retreats
Aldersgate youth are encouraged to attend the annual Virginia
Conference Youth Retreat Weekends. This is a fun weekend of activities,
music, over 2 night and 2 days. This is a great time to get away from the
world and be with friends.

 Virginia Conference Event
September 26, 7pm: "Way Forward"
"Way forward: a Q&A event with Bishop Sharma D. Lewis, the Rev. Tom
Berlin and Ms. Martha Stokes." This event will focus on the work of the
Commission on a Way Forward, the three proposed models and General
Conference 2019. The event will be held on Wednesday, September 26
at 7 p.m. at Reveille Church, 4200 Cary Street Rd, Richmond, VA 23221.
Bishop Lewis, the Rev. Berlin and Ms. Stokes will share their thoughts as
well as moderate questions on these topics. The event will be

Calling All Painters!
The Board of Trustees is seeking persons to assist with
several interior painting projects that will be beginning soon
at Aldersgate Church. Some experience is preferred. If you
might be able to assist for a few hours or for a couple of days

Volunteers Needed
for Weekend Backpack Program
At 6pm on Wednesday evenings during the school year, volunteers go to
Greer Elementary School and pack approximately 150 bags of food for
underserved families within the Greer community. The food is
taken home by students on Fridays. The families who receive
this food may not otherwise have adequate food resources for
the weekend. We are in need of volunteers to help with this
program. Your time commitment is 30 minutes once a month.
Please consider being the hands and feet of Jesus as we continue to do

College Student Care Packages
Another school year has rolled around and exam time will be here
before you know it! We like to send care packages to our college
students . . . and they like to receive them! So if you know of a first time
college student OR if your continuing college student has had a change
of address, please let us know so that we can send a care package out at

Do you own a sewing machine? Do you have a drawer
or closet or tubby full of fabric? We need you! The
Living Nativity ministry needs more costumes, and we
are in need of folks to help make them. Patterns and
fabric will be provided, and they range from very easy
to mildly intricate. Please join us. We have
something for everyone who is creative and wants to
