MASTERFLEX® 2000

Flexible PVC waterstop used in construction and expansion joints

DESCRIPTION The surface of the anchoring section of the

MASTERFLEX 2000 PVC Waterstop has ribs and naps.
MASTERFLEX 2000 is manufactured by extruding high This profile has two important functions:
grade polyvinyl chloride designed to impart high • To increase the anchoring power of the waterstop in
flexibility, high strength, durable and long life material. It the concrete
is resistant to water and water borne salts, and is stable
• To lengthen the path of water penetration around the

Even under high stresses, the anchoring section of the

MASTERFLEX 2000 is specially recommended for:

Selection of Size of Waterstop Centre bulb types must be used for expansion joints and
Experience has proved that the application of a few all other joints where the reinforcement bars do not pass
simple rules will ensure a satisfactory choice: through the joint between the slabs.
• The overall width of the waterstop should be
equal or little less than the thickness of the Example of Movement Joints
concrete slab into which it is placed.
Based on BS 8007: 1987 – Design of Concrete
• The width of the waterstop should be at least six Structures for retaining Aqueous Liquids.
times the size of the largest used aggregate. a). Expansion Joints - wall
• The waterstop should be positioned in the
centre of the joint.
Water pressure should be the prime consideration during
selection of size of PVC waterstop.
Water Pressure Recommended Width
Size
Low and medium pressure 150 - 200 mm
(up to 50 m of water)
High Pressure 250mm width
(up to 100m)
b). Expansion Joints - Floor
Suitability of Waterstop
Centrally placed waterstops
1. Centrally placed types can be applied when the
waterstop has the function of preventing water
penetration from outside to inside or vice-versa. (e.g
water tank, swimming pool).
2. Centrally placed waterstop is supported by concrete
on both sides and therefore able to withstand water
pressure from both side. It will prevent water loss
from inside of the tank and prevent ingress of ground
water when the water is drained. c). Formed Contraction Joints - Wall
3. It is most preferred in the case when steel shutters
make it difficult to fix the waterstop onto them.
Externally placed waterstops
1. Externally placed waterstops are designed for use in
basement, foundation and floor slab construction
either horizontal or vertical.
2. When installed in walls, it will resist water pressure
from the face it is placed.
3. However externally placed waterstops will resist d). Formed Contraction Joints - Floor
water pressure from either face if installed below floor
slabs with the waterstop supported by blinding
concrete, or if placed vertically against permanent
concrete shuttering.
4. Structures with tight and complicated reinforcements
make it often impossible or it is too time consuming to
install centrally placed waterstops. In such cases,
surface mounted types are preferred and advised.
5. Surface mounted waterstops are not advised in the
situations where the risk of mechanical damage due
to unprotected surface exist. APPLICATION
Where high water pressure is to be expected, centrally
placed types are preferred as the passage for Fixing and Installation
penetrating water to run around the waterstop is longer The sealing functions of a waterstop however, can only
for the centrally placed waterstops than the surface be achieved properly, when all necessary measures are
mounted types. taken into consideration during installation.

Besides tight welding, it is essential to fasten the ECJ (External Construction Joint)
waterstop properly to the reinforcement rods or to the
formwork shutters, so that the profile cannot be moved
