NARRATIVE REPORT ON:

SYSTEMATIC TRAINING ON EFFECTIVE PARENTING (STEP) FOR
GRADE 7 PARENTS
ON FEBRUARY 25, 2017, 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM

To support parents on effective parenting, the Guidance Staff, in

coordination with the EsP department and Grade 7 teachers and advisers,
conducted a systematic training which aimed to help parents become responsible
and effective role models to their children. This is especially significant, because
both the parents and the school play an important role in the success of children’s
education. This would mean that parents and the school need to meet halfway to
ensure that learners are supported as they face challenges in the educational
process.

Christian Family Life Apostolate (CFLA) headed by Mrs. Adelfa R. del Rosario,
Guidance Counselor, and at the same time the coordinator of the group, also
sponsored the training in which they took part in facilitating most of the sessions.
Mrs. Genalyn Q. Hugnac, Grade 7 Year Leader and Mrs. Concepcion O.
Resurreccion, Filipino Coordinator had their full support to the training as they are
responsible for disseminating the information to parents to ensure a good
attendance in the training. With them are the peer counselors, who were also in
attendance to help with the registration.

Mr. Wifredo B. Coming formally opened the program by welcoming all the
participants while Mrs. Josie A. Salalima and Mrs. Mary D. Padrequil, academic
coordinators, discussed the levelling of expectations.

The training is divided into different subtopics : 1. ANG-ANG SA PAGTUBO SA

TAWO by Mrs. Adelfa R. del Rosario, 2. KLASE SA PAGKA GINIKANAN by Mrs.
Rowena R. Pana and Mrs. Irish Cindy Joy A. Echem, 3. DISIPLINA by Mr. Isabelo R.
del Rosario. The participants were then assigned into smaller groups and given
different issues on parenting. The highlight of the training was when few
participants volunteered to undergo a sort of immersion, putting them in place of
their children. The activity made many emotional as they pondered on how
children might have felt with their parenting. During the open forum, many shared
positive insights about parenting and thankful of added wisdom on how to become
effective parents in these challenging times as parents face their opponents, media
and technology.
