A Detailed Lesson Plan in English

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
Outline the reading texts in a various discipline
CS_EN11/12A-EAPP-Ia-c-8
Develop deeper understanding on how to write an outline;
Write outline correctly.

A. PRELIMINARIES
1. Opening Prayer

‘’Someone, kindly lead the prayer.’’

‘’Dear Lord, make us mentally alert oh God


as we start our class today. Increase our
wisdom and develop our character according
to what is good and acceptable before thee
and our fellow men. In Jesus’ name, we
pray.’’

last meeting. Please pass it to the
center aisle and then forward.’’

B. Motivation
Before we proceed to our new
topic for today, let us first have an
activity.

Divide the class into groups. Give


each group a sheet of paper with a
heading written on top. Students
write as many sub-headings as
they can. The group with the most
number of correct answers wins (The students will do their task)
the game.

What is Outline?

 An Outline is general plan


of what you are going to
write.
 It shows the order of the
various topics and the
relationship between the
various parts.
 It is a way of formally
arranging and developing
your ideas.

It present relationship
among the main idea,
major supporting details,
and minor supporting
details

Example: Outline

Two types of an Outline:

Topic Outline- Summarizes the main


topics and sub-topics of the article in
words or phrases.

Sentence Outline- Uses complete


sentence for each topics and sub-
topics as it is more informative
compare to topic sentence.

Parts of an Outline
Introduction- It is the first paragraph
of your outline, wherein you discuss
what your topic is all about. At the
end of the introduction is thesis
statement.

 Thesis statement- is a one


statement that will discuss the
purpose of your paper.

Body- Is made up of several


paragraphs. It is where topics and its
sub-topics is written. Body covers
what the thesis statement is trying to
prove.

Conclusion- consists of one


paragraph that summarizes your
paper.

Steps in creating an Outline

1st: Identify your main topic.

2nd: Search and gather information of


your topic.

3rd: Determine what kind of outline


you want to use.

4th: Identify your main categories and


its subcategories.

5th: Organize your information in an


outline form.

APPLICATION
Directions: Read the paragraphs. Make an
outline.

Plants

Plants are important to all people


and animals. Without them, we would
have nothing to eat. Farmers raise crops
by spraying fertilizers. Most farmers
now put chemicals on the plants they
grow. They use fertilizers, pesticides
and herbicides on the plants grown
commercially.
Fertilizers are chemicals that
provide the nutrients that plants need to
make their own food. Pesticides are
chemicals that repel or kill insects that
harm the plants. Herbicides are
chemicals that kill the weeds that grow
with the plants.

Writing an Outline. There are two kinds of
outlines: The Topic Outlines and Sentence
Outlines. Parts of an Outline are
Introduction- wherein the thesis statement is
included. Second, Body and third
Conclusion.

IV. EVALUATION

Directions: Read the paragraphs. Complete the outline given. The main topics have
been written for you.

The class participated in the Clean and Green Project. The teacher asks the
students to keep the surroundings clean and orderly. Then students picked up pieces
of paper scattered around the classroom and corridors. They put all chairs in the
classroom in straight lines. Some swept the floor, dusted the book shelves, tables,
cabinets and the chalkboard.

After class, the students tended the school garden. Some made plots for
vegetable. Some planted seeds in pots and cans. Others watered the plants.
