Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time

As a Church, we do a lot of planning. It is in that spirit that we’d like to present to

you our 2018 Christmas schedule. Of course, it comes with an important footnote. The
presentation of the schedule is really just to help you, your friends and family to plan ahead,
to make your corresponding arrangements for Mass, travel, and meals with the people
with whom you plan to spend Christmas. In no way is this announcement of the Christmas
schedule intended to usher in the Christmas season. We all know that the liturgical season of
Christmas begins at 4pm on Monday, December 24. The Advent season, by the way, begins
at 4pm on Saturday, December 1. And of course, in the meantime, we all want to do our part
to not get too caught up in the secular media’s effort to commercialize the season.

Fourth Sunday of Advent Schedule

Saturday, December 22: Normal Saturday schedule
Sunday, December 23: Normal Sunday schedule

In the afternoon on Sunday, December 23, at 1:30 p.m., the Latino community will have a
celebration in the auditorium, with a Mariachi Band, and a dramatic production of the Nativity
scene. All, including the English-speaking community, are invited. Details to follow.

Monday, December 24th
Masses for Monday of the fourth week of Advent: 6 a.m., 7 a.m., only. These Masses will be
on the first floor as we will be decorating for Christmas on the second floor at this time.
Masses for the Christmas Vigil, December 24: 4 p.m., 4:15 p.m., in the first floor church,
5:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 10 p.m., and 12 Midnight. All Masses, including the 4:15 p.m., will
have the Arch St. Band.

Tuesday, December 25th: 10 a.m., only, with the Arch St. Band.

We will have the normal confession schedule on Saturday and Sunday. On Christmas Eve,
confessions will be from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., only. No Confessions will be heard on Christmas Day.
Finally, we will need some strong, able-bodied worker-bees to volunteer to do some
decorating of the church on the morning of December 24. If you are in town that morning and
interested, please let me know at tconway@stanthonyshrine.org. If a small group would like to
volunteer, that would be great too.
One humble suggestion. Please see all of the above as an opportunity to evangelize young
adults. People are more open to attending church at Christmastime. People like to be invited.
Perhaps you know a young person who won’t attend Mass, but will help decorate
the church… well, that’s a start! All of us have an obligation to do what we can
do to spread the faith.
Have a great week.
