OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018
RECTOR’S REFLECTIONS
GOD WILL PROVIDE
A
t the recent funeral of Doris Weiler her son, John, spoke
about his mother's unshakeable faith. Doris had attended INSIDE
our 225th Anniversary Service and along with Tommy Walsh
Rector’s Reflections 1
(the youngest at the celebration, Doris being the oldest) was
invited to cut the church's birthday cake. Little did we know later Events at Christ Church 2 - 4
that evening she would be called home into God's gracious Rummage Sale 5
keeping. The following day at Sunday Eucharist we found our Holy Hikes 5
collective joy had turned to sorrow.
Parish Schedule 6
John in his tribute told us that many years earlier Doris' joy had

died leaving her to raise two young children on her own. According News & Notes 9

HOLY HIKES
WORSHIPING GOD IN THE BEAUTY OF THE OUTDOORS
H
oly Hikes is a way to worship beyond the walls of comfort, to take a step, perhaps even a hike,
towards reunion with the earth and all its life and beauty.
All at Christ Church and St. John’s Episcopal Church with an extension anyone you may know
(dogs are invited too) is welcome to join us. Our goal is to walk an easy trail of the Plotter Kill Preserve on
Mariaville Road in Rotterdam. There’s a water fall there that may be quite pretty in the fall. While there, we
will share a small prayer for unity and peace with the world and to help us enjoy all that God created in a
natural environment.
The Almy D. Coggleshall Plotter Kill Preserve is a 632-acre nature reserve and hiking area located on
Route 159 in the town of Rotterdam. The location is convenient to both churches. A map of the Preserve can
be found here:

The tentative date for this will be the first or second weekend day in October. More information will be
provided once we reach out to St. John’s for their
interest level. If anyone has a preference, please
let us know. Email, text or see Sandra or John
Weiler if interested so that we can get an
approximate head count/ amount of interest.
