Year 7 Assessment Schedule

2014

Castle Hill High School is a place of learning where all members of the school community are working together to
provide a caring and challenging working environment that will allow all students to achieve their personal best.

Assessment is the process of collecting evidence of student learning in order to draw inferences about individuals
(or a group’s) current level of attainment.

Assessment can be used for a number of key purposes:

 Assisting in student learning;
 Evaluating and improving teaching and learning programs;
 Providing information on student learning and progress in a course in relation to the syllabus outcomes;
 Providing evidence of satisfactory completion of a course and;
 Reporting to parents / caregivers on student achievement.

Assessment can be both formative and summative.

 Formative Assessment informs the teacher of how the learning may develop in the future. For example:
Classroom tasks and projects such as Lino print, observations of student learning, homework, research tasks,
group work and presentations.

 Summative Assessment is an indication of the attainment of syllabus outcomes. For example: Assessment
tasks, topic tests, yearly examinations, research assignments, portfolios.
Some of the assessment tasks listed in this schedule are completed in the classroom and fulfill both formative and
summative purposes.

At Castle Hill High School we believe that all our students should strive to achieve their personal best and reflect in
their learning the school values.

In order to assist parents and students with their organisation the following assessment schedule has been
compiled.

Please Note:
 At the time of printing the schedule is accurate. Minor changes may occur due to unforeseen circumstances.
Should this be the case, students will be given notice by their classroom teacher.
 Due to the timetable some tasks have to be allocated over a two week cycle. This is only one task and
students will only be involved in one of the weeks.
