Lesson 1: Science Technology and Society

This lesson tells us what science is and how science


defined. Science can be defined as an idea, intellectual
activity, a body of knowledge and as a personal and
social activity. This lesson includes also some
intellectual and their revolutionary idea like Nicolas
Copernicus used thought experiment, Ptolemy, proposed
geocentric, Galileo developed telescope, Charles Darwin
famous for his Theory of Evolution, Sigmund Freud
proposed psychoanalysis scientific way to study human
mind and neurotic illness.

Cradles of early science

Mesoamerica includes three civilization the Mayan


civilization, Inca civilization and Aztec civilization.
The Mayan civilization known for their works in
astronomy. Have two kinds of calendars the Haab- 365 days

writing system has 1000 characters. Inca civilization
discovered roads paved with stone, irrigation system and
a calendar with 12 months. Aztec civilization their
education is mandatory, chocolate, antispasmodi,
chinampa, Aztec calendar and invention of the canoe.

Lesson 2: Science Technology and Nation Building


Science knowledge is observed in the way they plant
their crops to provide them food, in taking care of
animals to help them in their daily tasks and for food
production. Technology used in building houses,
irrigations and in developing tools that they can use in
everyday life for transportation and musical instruments.

technology known as school of science and technology. The

Lesson 3: Science Education in the Philippines
Science in basic education helps students learn
important concepts and facts that are related to everyday
life. Science education also develops positive attitude
such as: the love for knowledge, passion for innovative
things, curiosity to study about nature and creativity.
In tertiary education done by offering basic science
courses in the general education curriculum. This lesson
includes Science Schools in the Philippines and has a
mission of to provide learning environment to science
inclined children through a special curriculum that
recognizes the multiple intelligence of the learners.

Lesson 4: Indigenous Science and Technology in


the Philippines
This lesson tells about indigenous knowledge system
which includes using herbal medicine, preserving foods,
using indigenous technology in daily lives, building
local irrigation systems and etc. indigenous science it
is practiced by different groups of people and early
civilization. Indigenous beliefs also develop desirable
values as identified by Johnson (2000 namely) motivating
attitude, cooperating attitude, practical attitude, and
reflexive attitude. Indigenous science has a three groups
Science Process Skill, Community Culture and Values and
Traditional Knowledge
