7 ANNUAL GALA
TH

We are proud of the achievements of the

already established Sikh-American
Community in the United States. The Gala is
not just a showcase of these triumphs but
also a realization of the fact that the road to

breaking
success is filled with obstacles. Through
perseverance and commitment, we have
created a platform where aspiring
entrepreneurs, professionals, business

barriers
owners, and students alike all work
together to build a stronger network. Today,
we have a strong local presence through
our regional chapters and a wide global
presence through our new initiative of SCC
Global.

As we continue to break numerous barriers

and glass ceilings on our journey, let us first
take this evening to appreciate all that we
have accomplished as we celebrate our 7th
Annual Gala. Thank you for being a part of
our journey and we hope to be a part of
yours as we empower, promote and unite

SACC
our Sikh community.

The Sikh American Chamber of Commerce (SACC) is a non-profit organization

comprised of a cross section of Sikh American member businesses, ranging
from sole proprietors to large corporations, skilled professionals and young
students and entrepreneurs. Our goal is to provide a forum for effective
business networking, promote entrepreneurship within the community and
provide access to resources for our youth so that they too may thrive in
business or profession. It is through these business driven initiatives that our
Sikh American community may thrive.

We all have stories to tell. Some experiences are significant and some
are life-altering. As a strong believer in ‘Inspired women inspire women’,
I feel every woman should share their story, personal or professional
and reflect as a source of inspiration to each other. When you shift focus
from competition to contribution, life becomes a celebration. No matter
where you are in life, it is important to empower the women around you.
You may look at me as a successful professional, a dedicated wife and
mom, but I am a woman first. When women collaborate and celebrate
one another, amazing things happen. The SACC provides a unique
platform for both men and women to connect and fulfill their
professional aspirations through various initiatives. SACC’s Women
Leadership Summit is a wonderful opportunity for women mentoring
and pouring into one another.
In the spirit of the SACC’s Gala theme for this year--Breaking Barriers-- I
want to encourage all women to get the leadership advice on how to
break invisible barriers or glass ceilings on your way up. If you have a
vision, make a great plan and put it into action. SACC is here to support
you in fulfilling your aspirations. Let’s get together and set a great
example for our generations to come. As a fellow Sikh and as a woman,
remember to keep your chin up, head high and follow your passion. No
matter how difficult the path is, together we can bring a difference and
reach greater heights.

Our Mantra, Our Passion. Each year people ask us why we

devote our time and resources to this cause? Because we are
blessed, and we know that we have an obligation to give back.
Had we not been educated, had the right mentors, been given an
extra helping hand at critical times in our lives, we would not be
here. It’s about Paying it forward, helping others, building our
community, not as a hobby, but as a Passion. We live this Mantra
in our work and home life. It’s who we are as individuals and
embodies our CORE VALUES as a family.

Every day, when our children leave for school, we don’t tell them
to study hard, or make more friends, we tell them to BE GOOD
HUMAN BEINGS.” That is all we ask. So please,

When you LEARN, TEACH others.

When you GET, GIVE back.
  When you RISE, LIFT others.
LET’S MOVE FORWARD, BY GIVING BACK.

Let me start by congratulating Sikh American Chamber of Commerce

(SACC) on its 7th annual Gala. I have been very fortunate and
blessed to be associated with this amazing organization for all of
these 7 years. And what better than “Breaking Barriers” as the theme
for this year’s gala. That’s a theme this organization has been living
with since its existence and has achieved ground breaking success
in form of networking gala’s, job fair and mentor connect, leadership
and networking cohorts and many such forums. SACC has helped
our community break the barriers of traditional and siloed thinking
and evolve into a group that’s now talking to each other, learning
from each other, helping each other and celebrating the success of
community at large. As they say - “Success is an eventuality when
good people with good intentions work together”. SACC has been
the glue bringing us all together.
I once again congratulate SACC for all of these achievements and
hope the organization continues to achieve greater heights while
realizing it’s core vision of community empowerment through
entrepreneurship and professional education.
I also want to take this opportunity to Thank you all for joining us for
the gala tonight and for all your contributions towards the success
of Sikh American Chamber of Commerce.

There are a few blessed ones who know what their purpose of life is
while most of us confuse it with the individual goals; whether aligned
with life purpose or not; be it related to education and career,
finances, family or any other related aspect of our lives. Regardless,
being part of a non-profit organization like SACC can directly or
indirectly help us achieve our purpose and/or goals when we align
them with SACC activities.
The way we align SACC activities with our purpose in life is up to
each of us individually to find out for ourselves. SACC provides
fruitful ongoing networking events; meaningful job fairs; and
leadership summits that provide a medium to meet and learn from
thought leaders of our era. SACC is also a great platform to take on
social responsibility, give back and achieve personal satisfaction by
doing so. There are various ways one can contribute such as
volunteering one’s specialized services, sponsoring the events, being
a mentor or an employer at the annual job fair or playing a more active
role by being part of the wonderful executive committees that work
tirelessly to host informative and successful events.
I would like to take this opportunity to urge all to join and be part of
SACC aligning your goals with various potential activities of the
organization that you can be part of and opportunities you can have
here. It has been my great pleasure to be part of SACC and move on a
path of trying to live my purpose and achieve my goals!!

and raised in New Jersey, Mayor Bhalla is a 17 year resident of Hoboken and
eight year member of the Hoboken City Council.
He received his undergraduate education from the University of California at

school starting his first job at a small law firm in Newark, New Jersey. Ravi
earned national recognition in the New York Times for his legal advocacy after
suffering a violation of his own constitutional and civil rights during a jail visit to

Ravi ran for Council alongside Mayor Zimmer and worked tirelessly to get their
message out of restoring honesty, professionalism and fiscal responsibility to
Hoboken. Out of twelve candidates vying for 3 council-at-large positions, Ravi
received the highest number of votes, as a first time candidate for office.
Once in office, Ravi worked hard alongside Mayor Zimmer and his council
colleagues to establish tangible reforms to the way government is run in
Hoboken. Prior to his service as a Councilman, Mr. Bhalla served as a local
Democratic Committeeman for the 2nd Ward, 3rd District of Hoboken from 2007-
2009.
Ravi and his wife Bindya reside on Garden Street with their two children, Arza
Kaur, age 10 and Shabegh Singh, age 5.
