DETECTION l Open circuit or short to ground has been detected in the ABS wheel-speed sensor
CONDITION wiring harness on any of the four vehicle wheels.
l Open circuit or short to ground in the wiring harness between the following ABS
HU/CM terminals and ABS wheel-speed sensor terminals:
l ABS HU/CM terminal Q-RF ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal A

l ABS HU/CM terminal O-RF ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal B

l ABS HU/CM terminal I-LF ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal A

l ABS HU/CM terminal K-LF ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal B

POSSIBLE CAUSE
l ABS HU/CM terminal E-RR ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal A

l ABS HU/CM terminal C-RR ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal B

l ABS HU/CM terminal U-LR ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal A

l ABS HU/CM terminal W-LR ABS wheel-speed sensor terminal B

l Malfunction in the ABS wheel-speed sensor

l Poor connection at connectors (female terminal)

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP INSPECTION ACTION

1 INSPECT ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR Yes Go to the next step.
FOR SHORT TO GROUND

l Switch the ignition to off.

l Disconnect the ABS HU/CM connectors.
l Inspect for continuity between the
following ABS HU/CM connector
terminals (vehicle harness-side) and body
ground:
l RF ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): Q
No Go to Step 3.
l RF ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): O

l LF ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): I

l RR ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): E

l RR ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): C

l LR ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): U

l LR ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): W

l Is there continuity?

2 INSPECT ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR Yes Repair or replace the wiring harness, then
WIRING HARNESS FOR SHORT TO go to Step 4.
GROUND

lDisconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor

connectors.
l Inspect for continuity between the
following ABS HU/CM connector
terminals (vehicle harness-side) and body
ground:
l RF ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): Q
l RF ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): O
l LF ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): I
No Replace the ABS wheel-speed sensor, then
go to Step 4.

l LF ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): K

l RR ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): E

l RR ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): C

l LR ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): U

l LR ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): W

l Is there continuity?

3 INSPECT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT IN ABS Yes Go to the next step.

WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR WIRING
HARNESS
No Replace the ABS wheel-speed sensor, then
l Inspect for continuity between the ABS go to the next step.
HU/CM connectors (vehicle harness-side) (See FRONT ABS WHEEL-SPEED
and the following vehicle harness-side SENSOR
connector terminals of the ABS wheel- REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
speed sensors: (See REAR ABS WHEEL-SPEED
l RF ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): Q- SENSOR
A REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
l RF ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): O-B

l LF ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): I-A

l LF ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): K-B

l RR ABS wheel-speed sensor (+): E-

l LR ABS wheel-speed sensor (-): W-
B
l Is there continuity?

4 VERIFY THAT THE SAME DTC IS NOT
PRESENT
l Reconnect all disconnected connectors.
l Clear the DTCs from the memory.
Yes Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
If the malfunction recurs, replace the ABS
CM, then go to the next step.

(See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS [ABS].)

No Go to the next step.
Are the same DTCs present?
l

5 VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCS ARE Yes Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
PRESENT (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS [ABS].)

l Are any other DTCs output? No DTC troubleshooting completed.
