What we did this week:

Monday we had an escape room for photosynthesis. Students had to use

what they learned last week to see if they could escape the room in time. Most
groups were successful.
Tuesday, to help understand cellular respiration, we completed a lab with
yeast, sugar, water, and balloons. 1 spoonful of yeast and 2 of sugar were added to
a bottle/flask. The bottle was filled ¾ of the way full with warm water and then a
balloon was immediately placed on top. The other bottle had yeast, water, and no
sugar. Groups measured the diameter of their balloon every 5 minutes. They
should have seen that the balloon with sugar inflated with carbon dioxide. We saw
some very mixed results and talked about all the errors that could have
occurred. Luckily, every class had several groups (or at least 1) that worked and
we were able to use that data.
Wednesday, Mrs. James came into our class to do a lesson through the
counseling department.
Thursday we finished our lab from Tuesday and looked at the formulas for
both photosynthesis and respiration. We saw how they are opposite of one
another. What one’s reactants are, is the other’s products and vice versa.
Today we will take our assessment and watch a Bill Nye on respiration.
