USHERS NEEDED!
The church needs your help. A great service opportunity at
Aldersgate Church is being an usher. We need ushers for every
week of the month for the 11:00am service time except the
3rd week of each month. If you are interested in exploring this
opportunity to serve periodically on Sunday morning, please

We’re glad you’ve found our church! We hope you’ll find us to be
an encouraging, friendly group of people. While we don’t make any
claims to be perfect, at our church we come together to help make
the kingdom of God a reality on earth by loving God and loving our
neighbor.
Growing Together....Today is
Commitment Sunday
Over the past three weeks, our fall stewardship series has
examined Jesus' call on our lives, especially his call to grow
in communion with him and one another. Each of us is
called to GROW TOGETHER! Today, Commitment Sunday,
we come together as Christ's body, the Church, to offer our thanks and
praise by making our 2019 financial commitments to the work of Christ in
and through Aldersgate Church. During Holy Communion, you are invited
to place your commitment form in the baptismal font as you come to
receive the elements of bread and grape juice. To the church, the Lord
gives the Holy Spirit and takes our combined efforts to do more than we
can imagine as individuals. As we GROW TOGETHER, in 2019 we can do all
things through Christ!

For Our Youngest Friends
and Their Parents
A professionally staffed nursery is available for children birth through
age three during all services and Sunday School on the lower level. An
usher will be happy to direct you. Additionally, a Parent Room is
available in the Parlor adjacent to the Sanctuary, for viewing and hearing
all services. Please ask an usher to show you the way. All restrooms are
equipped with changing tables.
Sunday Children's Worship
During 9am and 11am Services
Calling all children! Children 3 years old through 5th grade are invited to
come and be a part of our new Children's Worship time downstairs
following the Children's Message. There they will have opportuni ties to
encounter God through scripture, music, prayers, and other meaningful
and fun ways. Elementary-age children will return to the sanctuary and
gather with the congregation for the benediction each week. At 9:00am,
Pre-Schoolers move to their 10:10am Sunday School room. If you have

Children's Sunday School
Sunday School, a time of bible discovery with friends, invites all children
to come and learn at 10:10am. Lynn Bremer leads the elementary class
(Room 106) and Sherry Bryant leads our all new Preschool/Kindergarten
class (Room 110). Classrooms are found in the Education Wing.

Staff Openings at Aldersgate Church
Church Administrator needed -
On behalf of Aldersgate’s Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC), we share
our church administrator, Amy O’Brien, was recently offered an opportunity
for a career change. Amy feels led by God to accept that opportunity, and so
her last day was Friday, October 5, 2018. We deeply appreciate Amy’s service
to our church for the past 11 years; and as she leaves us, we send our prayers,
gratitude, love, and good wishes with her and her daughter, Erin. If you are
interested or know someone that may be interested in learning more about

Kitchen Coordinator needed -
Elizabeth Peterson has served as our Kitchen Coordinator for the past three

Sisters in Scripture
The Sisters in Scripture Sunday School Class (Room 211) has a small
group DVD bible study, Twelve Women of the Bible. Lysa TerKuerst, Elisa
Morgan, Jeanne Stevens and other leaders look at the spiritual lessons
learned from twelve biblical women and what they mean for your life
today. All ladies are invited to join us each Sunday morning, 10:10am-

 Adult Bible Study Opportunity
YOU ARE INVITED!
The Faith Walk Adult Class, which meets in the Fellowship Hall downstairs
at 10:00am on Sunday morning, is studying the Book of Isaiah. Using the
Genesis to Revelation series, each lesson asks three main questions:
1. What does this passage say? In other words, let's get the facts straight!
2. What does the passage mean? How did the first hearers understand the
passage in their time?
3. What might the passage mean to me, in my life, here, today? How can I
live this passage?
The lesson, then, moves from information in/about the passage to
questions of personal discipleship. You are invited!

Young Adult Small Group

Are you a young professional or parent seeking to connect with others? We
invite you to a set-apart time of fellowship, encouragement, and spiritual
growth. We meet in the Hospitality Room from 10:00am to 10:50am on the
lower level, and all materials are provided. You don’t need to do anything
other than show up and enjoy.
Need Your Input: Branding Survey
We are excited to announce that Aldersgate Church will be working with
Mary Beth Bowen and Sarah Scott from Hive Creative Group located in
Crozet, Virginia on creating a clearer and more effective brand for
Aldersgate Church. This will help us to have more concise
communications within the church and to better help share our story
with the community. Together we will be looking at our mission
statement, values and key principals. We can’t do this though without
your help. It’s important for us to have your input; you are an essential
part of our church family. Hive Creative Group has prepared a survey
that will be available to pick up starting next Sunday, November 11 at
both the 9:00 and 11:00 AM service. This survey will also be available
online at www.cvaumc.org. We will be collecting surveys through
Sunday, December 2. We invite and encourage you to participate by
filling out a survey. Thank you in advance for your help!
Joyful Noise Singers
Children (grades 1-6) are invited to gather in the Sanctuary from 12:15-
12:30am (by the organ after 11:00am service) with Rafael. This will be a
time for the children to learn more about music and rehearse for
upcoming opportunities to sing in worship as they glorify God. Contact

Children's Ministry is growing!!
Help is needed to fulfill our calling in the lives of our children. Adult
“helpers” are needed during the 9:00am Children's Worship Time and
during the 10:00am Children's Sunday School time, usually just once a

Save the Date! Parent's Night Out
Parent’s Night Out is a ministry opportunity for young parents to
have a time apart for soul care. Parents may register their children
(sign up link coming soon) for December 7 from 5:00-8:00 pm.
Children will spend a fun and festive evening enjoying dinner, a
movie, and various creative stations such as drama, STEM, art, and

Children's Nativity
Cast Information
The Children's Nativity is on December 15 at 5:00pm and
there is still room for younger children (ages 4 through
2nd grade) to join the cast and attend 1 practice (December 12
or 14). The next practice for older children will be on
Wednesday, November 14 at 5:30pm. Please contact Pastor

A Time for All Generations to Connect
Advent Season Begins
Saturday, December 1
Children's Ministry is hosting Pancakes and Pajamas from 8:30 -
9:30am on December 1 in the Fellowship Hall. Participants can come
dressed in festive pajamas and enjoy making their very own pancakes,
complete with the toppings. Each participant will then have an
opportunity to make a Christmas Tree ornament that will be used to
prepare our tree in the Reed Room and a take home activity for the
whole family.
Hospitality Committee will begin preparing the Reed Room @ 9:00 am
on December 1 for our Advent season. If you would like to help set
tables and make this space ready, please contact Jennifer Hamlin at
panachejennifer@gmail.com. The Advent Brunch will be held on
Sunday, Dec. 2 @ 10:00am between services and is a pot luck
celebration of food, faith and fellowship. Come and Enjoy!
Altar Guild is hosting the Hanging of the Greens, a traditional means of
preparing the Sanctuary for the season of Advent. Beginning at 9:00am
December 1, we'll decorate Sanctuary Chrismon Trees, hang wreaths,
prepare the Christmas Tree in the Welcome Center Please contact

Wednesday, November 28 at 10:00 am -- A few good men are needed
to help set up the artificial Christmas trees in the Sanctuary, Reed Room
and Welcome Center.
United Methodist Men: Flower Bulb Sale
Today the United Methodist Men’s group will be conducting a sale of iris
roots, glads, and jonquils bulbs in the Reed Room following the 11:00am
service until 2:00pm. The profits from this sale will continue to support
the men’s group improvement efforts of many church buildings. Come
let’s find homes for these excess plants.
Painters Needed
Could you lend a helping hand? The Trustees have done a wonderful
job of beginning the painting project downstairs, but more help is
needed. If you could spare a few hours on a Friday evening or a
Saturday sometime in the month of November, please contact Pastor

Donations for College Students
The time has come again: time to collect goodies for care packages for our
college students during exam time! We are collecting candy, gum, chocolate,
nuts, granola bars, mints, popcorn, crackers, pens, pencils, or any individually
wrapped food items or small items that would lift the spirits of students in the
midst of exams AND remind them that their church family is thinking of them!
The items can be placed in the tub located in the hospitality room downstairs;

Training for
Stephen Ministry
AUMC has been a Stephen ministry for 15
years. Our Stephen Ministers have been a
blessing to individuals, to the lay ministers
themselves, and to the whole
congregation. To continue and expand the ministry of care, we will begin
another Stephen ministry training class to start in early 2019. Take
advantage of this opportunity to share the love that God has given you.
You will find that being a Stephen minister will not only be helpful to
others, but it will be one of the most fulfilling and joyful experiences that
you will ever have.

Confirmation Information
Luncheon
for Youth & Parents
On November 18, 2018, at 12:15pm, youth and their parents are invited
to attend an information luncheon regarding the confirmation program
at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Confirmation is a series of
classes that help youth, currently in the sixth grade or higher, explore
their faith and discern whether they are ready to make a profession of
faith in Jesus Christ! During confirmation classes, confirmands learn
about the meaning of Christian faith, the history and teaching of the
United Methodist Church, an explanation of the sacraments of Baptism
and Holy Communion, and the membership vows of the

Young Adult/Family Gathering
Young Adult Small Group & Children’s Ministry is hosting a Simple
Gathering on Saturday, Nov 17 @ 2pm on the playground at the
church. Join us for a simple time of making s’mores and hot chocolate,
bring a lawn chair and enjoy conversation and let the kids play! You
don’t have to be a part of Small Group to join us, just come as you

 Volunteers for Sunday Night
Youth Dinner
Our Youth Group for 2018-2019 is in full swing and each
Sunday night, the Middle School and High School youth join
for a time of fellowship over a meal from 6:15pm-
6:45pm. Youth Group is seeking adult volunteers, Sunday
School Classes or other adult small groups in the church who
would be willing to volunteer to assist with our Sunday Night
Youth Group Dinner. We would ask that the night you
volunteer, you would help prepare or pick up our meal, set up
food for buffet style serving, join us for dinner and fellowship
and help us with cleaning up. If you can serve the youth in
this area for one meal this year, please see the available dates
in the Reed Room (meal stipend monies are available to

Aldersgate Church is Seeking a Director for
the Aldersgate Youth Praise Band
The Aldersgate Youth Praise Band ministry is
seeking an adult Christian to support and
direct youth volunteers in expressing a
contagious love of Jesus through music and
worship. The director will assist the band in
rehearsals and in preparations for leading
worship at Aldersgate Church. The Youth
Praise Band leads music during worship
periodically throughout the year. If you would like to explore

PACEM Ministry: Help Needed!
Aldersgate UMC will once again host the PACEM (People and
Congregations Engaged in Ministry) Women’s Shelter from November
10 through the 17. Opportunities to help include greeting our guests
as they arrive, laundering towels, personal laundry, preparing snacks,
helping in the kitchen, spending time with our guests, and staying
overnight. Items also are being collected for the shelter through
Sunday, November 11. Volunteer sign-up sheets and Donation boxes
will be located in the Reed Room and the Welcome Center.
Personal items: Chapstick, lotion, ladies socks (athletic and dress).
Food: Gum, mints, hard candy, snack bags of potato chips, pretzels,
Cheetos, soft snack bars, tea bags, hot chocolate mix, lemonade mix,
Splenda and sugar.
Other: New or gently used bath towels and current magazines.
Monetary contributions will be accepted to buy food and paper goods,
and to help with other expenses related to hosting the
program. Please make your check payable to AUMC with PACEM listed

Blue Ridge Food Bank Needs Donations!
As you prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving this year with family and
friends, please remember those less fortunate than we are and
contribute food items to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Food that is
needed includes:
Canned Items: Beef Stew, Ravioli, Spaghetti, Vegetables, Fruit, 100%
Juice, Soups, Chicken or Tuna (most needed)
Boxed: Rice 1 lb. (or bag); Macaroni & Cheese, Pasta & Pasta Sauce,
Breakfast Cereals/Oatmeal/Grits
Other: Coffee/Tea/Jam/Jelly, Peanut Butter (most needed)
NOTE: Please check expiration dates. NO GLASS JARS and NO jumbo
size containers, please. Food Collection Bins will be placed in the
Welcome Center and outside the Reed Room. Food will be collected
through November 30.
