B) How do people in Britain show their national loyalty and/ or their sense of identity?
Provide, at least 5 examples.
British people show their national loyalty by the way they speak, they still like and
enjoy the Parliament sessions open, when a prince is getting married, they are excited
for these things and they take it like special ones.
Specially they show national loyalty because of the Queen, they have great respect for
their Queen and everyone who’s part of the Monarchy. And their sense of identity it
shown by the language they speak as their first language but people from Wales or
Ireland speak other languages. Some things that identify them is their sense of humor,
for British people is really important to be funny and make jokes, especially in formal
occasions when it’s a more distant relationship.
Another thing that identifies them is the importance they give to family and friends.
They don’t have a lot of friends usually, they have some true friends which they treat
like a member of the family, they keep with them a real informal relationship, they
don’t consider everyone as a ‘’friend’’. They have really formal names with people they
just know, they talk about certain stuff, but they don’t talk with them about how much
they get paid in their jobs or talk about their sex life. It’s not polite to ask about those
subjects with people that are not your friends.
C) Compare the British and the American system of government. Include roles of the
monarchy, president, PM, division of powers, election of authorities, etc. (A chart is
also possible).
British system of government it is a constitutional monarchy based in the Parliament
and includes: The Monarchy, the Parliament, the House of Lords and the House of
Commons, whereas the American system of government is composed by: the president,
the legislative power, the executive power, and the judicial power.
In Britain the first part of the power is the Queen, you heritage the power if you are
apart of the monarchy, the object of the Queen is to role but not rule. It’s the face of the
country and everything relies on her, she decides to make peace or make a war with an
enemy, to make international relationships with other countries and to make her country
stay stable and grow.
This is similar to the object of the President; the only difference is that the president is
elected in democracy and the monarchy heritage the power.
In Britain it discusses about political issues on the country and laws they have to
approve or to reject. Then there are the House of Lords, in which the ones who are there
they have inherit the possibility to be a member of the House of Lords.
And the people in the House of commons are elected by the different constituencies,
they have made new laws and discuss about political issues. The Parliament is
conformed of these two houses and the committee who talks about the laws in detail.
Another important part of the House is the Prime Minister, it’s the one who talks
regularly to the Queen to let her know about what’s going on in the Parliament and in
the country.
In America, the system of government is a democracy and different, they have a
Constitution which has several laws, and it was made so nobody could have all the
power in the country. The 3 powers have the same importance and the president doesn’t
have more power than them.
The legislative power makes laws, and its divided into two: the representatives of
Congress and the Senate. The representative of Congress is elected by the people in the
different states to represent them. And the Senate has about 463 people. Then, the
executive power administrates and approves or change a law. And the final power is the
judicial power. It makes the laws work properly and the president is a part of it.
The elections in both countries are similar, you don’t vote a specific person, you vote a
political party. In America there are two: the republicans and the democrats, and in
Britain there is the Labor party and the Democrat party. The people vote for the party
and the people who make the party decides who is the president to represent them and
all the people.
D) Education
1. Great Britain: Why are ‘’public and private’’ confusing words.
2. Education in the US: Why is discrimination or segregation still a problem that
affects schooling?
1) In Great Britain, public and private are confusing words because people tempt to
think public means that you don’t pay for it and that it’s a lower level than the
private school but that’s actually a myth.
Firstly, schooling is compulsory at the age of five and most people send their kids to a
public school, they have better reputation than private school.
In Britain you have to pay for public schools and they go to €300 to €1000 a term for
secondary school.

Pubic school has better reputation than the private school because is believed that kids
that don’t really have good grades and who has parents that can pay for that expensive
school.
2) In the US discrimination and segregation is a problem in schooling because not
every kid has the same opportunities or comes from the same place. They are a
lot of immigrants and have different features of talk in a different way. Those
are big problems in schooling that affects kid.
