DAILY PLAN
Lesson Title: Picasso shapes

S & S Statements: 1st grade did really well creating their imaginary animals that we want to
teach more about abstract art. Teaching the children how to find
shapes within a object and coming to the understanding that
complex objects and is made up of simple shapes. The children will
be using premade shapes and after using examples during the
demonstration children will be able to understand how to create
abstract art.

Purpose of Lesson (Overall Lesson Objective):

Teaching children how art can be abstract by using simple shapes to create a complex object they
see everyday.

1st grade will explore the use of lines on top of the shapes to create a everyday object on top of
abstract shapes. CR 2.1.1

Assessment Criteria:
Properly creating a work of art that demonstrate how to put shapes together to create abstract
art.

Teacher Directed Activities
Introduction: (10mins)
Calling children to the mat and showing them
pictures of Picasso’s work and introduce what
abstract art is. When showing children
examples have them trace shapes they see in
the examples.
Introduce the project.
Development: (20 mins)
After the lecture children will come to the round
table where the instructor will do a demonstration
about how a shapes can make up an object.
Glueing a bunch of shapes down and asking if they
see a object in the shapes. Using oil pastel and
revealing what the instructor sees. Child will be
sent back to seats to start working.
Conclusion: ( 5mins)
Teachers will pass out previous project to finish
coloring and glue together.

Student Activities
Introduction
Sitting on the rug and quietly listening to
teacher.
Answering questions when asked.
Development:
Children will gather around the table kneeling
in the front so other kids can see behind them.
The child will quietly follow directions and
observe the teacher. Helping the teacher
identify what the shapes make.
Once demonstration if over the children will
return to their seats and being glueing the
shapes on the paper.
After shapes are glued child will have to
identify what the shapes represent.
Conclusion:
They will work on the previous project to glue
and finish coloring it.
