BURNER TRIPS

Burner can trip due to the following reasons

1. Flame scanner doesn’t detect flame, may be the equipment is faulty or there is no flame
to detect
2. Fuel gas header pressure (at FCV outlet) ≥ 2.6kgf/cm2 (TRIP)
3. Fuel gas header pressure = 2.4kgf/cm2 (ALARM)
4. Fuel gas header pressure (at FCV outlet) ≤ 0.06kgf/cm2 (TRIP)
5. Fuel gas pressure at burner tip (PSL-1032-02) ≤ 0.08kgf/cm2 (TRIP)
6. Atom. Steam pressure LL at header ≤ 4kgf/cm2 (TRIP)
7. Atom. Steam pressure low at burner tip ≤ 6kgf/cm (Alarm only for each
2

burner)
8. Oil pressure LL at FCV outlet ≤ 4kgf/cm 2
(TRIP)

9. Oil pressure alarm Low at FCV outlet = 5kgf/cm (Alarm Only)
10. Oil pressure alarm High at FCV outlet = 26kgf/cm2 (Alarm Only)

BURNER PURGING REQUIREMENTS

Before the startup of the burner its purging is done and for purging sequence following
requirement should meet

1. Immediately before each cold/warm start or following an MFT when

the bed temperature is less than 700°C or when coal feeder trips with less
than 600°C and no startup burners in service, the boiler should be purged.

NOTE 2: Boiler purge shall also be performed sufficiently to eliminate the

potential possibility of accumulating toxic gas inside furnace, convection pass
and flue gas duct before maintenance work.

2. Adjust the SA flow to makeup the total air flow required for furnace purging
 Total air flow (PA + SA) should be more than 140,000 Nm3/hr.
 PA flow should be more than 92,000 Nm3/hr.
Purging Sequence & Startup:

1) Ensure that the fuel valves are closed and bleed valve is open and burner dampers are on
remote and auto as well as individual dampers are on remote.
2) Purging is done locally from the local control panel. The purging sequence is of 5
minutes. After that burner dampers will close on auto. Make sure that burner dampers are
on auto and individual dampers are on remote.
3) After purging of boiler, the ready to start indication shows on LCP.
4) Press the startup push button of the LCP.
5) By pressing start command on startup BURNER on REMOTE, fuel headers XV-1030-
32/33 will open and XV-1030-34 will close. Ensure that FG or PG is selected from the
DCS.
6) Startup sequence then starts and everything then happens automatically.
 Ignitor inserts
 Then burner gun inserts
 Ignitor ignites and produces sparks for 15 seconds, then it is retracted.
 Flame scanner detects the flame
7) If flame scanner detects the flame then burner startup is successful, otherwise after 15
sec, the ignitor is retracted and flame scanner will trip the burner.
8) To start the burner again the settings are reset and again burger startup push button is
pressed.
