i
1 Theory of Operation
Aeon7200 Anesthesia Machine is a continuous gas flow anesthesia system, installed
with gas circuit which can transfer oxygen, nitrous oxide, air and inspirable anesthetic.
Gas circuit can use oxygen and nitrous oxide. When using enflurane or isoflurane as
anesthetic( isoflurane vaporizer is an optional part),oxygen and nitrous oxide shall have
their pressure decrease to 600kPa~280kPa and then enter into anesthesia machine,
oxygen and air enter into flow meter respectively via the protective pressure regulator
inside anesthesia machine. For nitrous oxide, nitrous oxide operated valve can open and
nitrous oxide can enter into flow meter only when oxygen pressure remains above
0.02MPa. Otherwise, nitrous oxide cannot enter into the gas circuit of anesthesia
machine. Adjust the flow of oxygen, nitrous oxide and air by using the flow control valve
on flow meter. Oxygen and nitrous oxide have a linkage system to guarantee that oxygen
output is larger than 25%. Oxygen, nitrous oxide and air are mixed in flow meter. The
mixed gas takes part of the anesthetic vapor via anesthetic evaporator, and transfers it to
the breathing system directly from fresh gas outlet. The anesthetic gas or oxygen
transferred into the breathing system of patient maintains patient’s regular breathing
through automatic machine control (controlled by breathing machine) or manual mode
according to the specific ventilation and breathing mode. This machine has the
adjustable pressure limitation valve and gas overflow valve.

1.1 Gas Circuit System

The function of gas circuit system is to provide oxygen, nitrous oxide and anesthesia gas
to patient. The system pressure should be maintained within a normal range for ensuring
the normal operation of anesthesia machine and the safety of patient. Please see
diagram 1, 2, 3 for further reference.

1.2 Theory of Operation of Ventilator

Reducing valve mains its inside pressure at 0.25MPa~0.28MPa, by going through

which the high pressure oxygen flows at a lower pressure, then the oxygen outflows
through inspiration magnetic valve and throttle, the outflow oxygen is for driving bellows
in the anesthesia machine. The flow speed of input gas could be controlled by adjustable
manual throttle. For patient’s safety, a safety valve is installed in the airway pipe to limit
the maximum airway pressure, when airway pressure exceeds the safety pressure
limitation of 8kPa in the circuit system, the safety valve automatically releases gas
outside.,

In the inspiration phase, input gas goes through driving bellows loop which makes
anesthesia gas flows to patient via flow search unit., meanwhile, pressure sensor and
flow sensor are connected with sampling pipe of flow search unit for sampling, and then
turn sampling data to monitoring parameters of inspiration phase.

In the expiration phase, the gas exhaled by patient flows back to anesthesia loop through
flow search unit, meanwhile, pressure sensor and flow sensor are connected with
sampling pipe of flow search unit for sampling, and then turn sampling data to monitoring
parameters of expiration phase.

During the whole respiratory process, oxygen sensor processes sampling of anesthesia
loop gas and turns it into voltage signals which will be sent to the main control board. The
main control board is used for monitoring oxygen concentration of anesthesia loop.

A whole respiratory process is controlled by inspiration electromagnetic valve and

expiration electromagnetic valve. During inspiration process, inspiration electromagnetic
valve is unbarred, while expiration electromagnetic valve as well as expiration valve is
turned off; during expiration process, inspiration electromagnetic valve is turned off,
while expiration electromagnetic valve is unbarred, but expiration valve is turned off.
Both processes are controlled by electric unit. As is showed in the simplified char, main
control board takes charge of adjusting and controlling some units of machine operation
process, such as inspiration time, expiration time, expiration valve control signal,
acquisition and processing of sensor signals. By communicating with display panel
through serial port, main control board could realize the functions of alarming signal
output, keyboard decoding and LCD display. Power supply panel mainly functions as
supplying power for the normal machine operation and alarming when system switching
off.

4.5 Circuit Failure Elimination/Repairing Methods

4.5.1 Main Board

Phenomenon 1: Screen shows “communication failure”

Observe whether the two lamps on D1、D2 display panel are on and flicker all the time.
If only one lamp is on:

1) Check whether U7 7th pin shows intermittent high->low signals with DC

voltage shelf; if it always shows low signals, replace MAX705 after
assuring surrounding circuits are under well conditions.

Test whether the voltage of U10 52th pin is 5V, if not, check power
panel conditions.

2) U10 voltage connects power panel+ main board+ display+ flow sensor
panel+ external valve, turn on power switch to observe valve and whether
status lamp(LD1,LD3) is on/off intermittently; if valve does not work but
lamp is on, please make sure whether U10 has processed program
download correctly, and then process program download again.

If valve works and status lamps (LD1, LD3) flicker on/off, replace U9 chip
MAX232 after assuring no soldering problems and well pressuring status
of W8 Cable.

Phenomenon 2: No valve operation

Ensuring well download of main board program

1) Check the following lamp status: inspiration valve-LD1, expiration
valve-LD3, manual/auto control valve-LD2), if the corresponding status
lamp is unavailable, please make sure W21 Cable is well pressured, and
then ensuring the voltage on one pin of J14 is 12V, check power board if
voltage is too high or too low.

2) Measuring auto mode with DC voltage knob (if LD1 is

unavailable/inspiration valve does not work), first of all, measure whether
one pin of R41 jumps from high value to low value intermittently,(1) if not,
make sure whether there exists steps on 8th pin of U10; if there is no step
on 8th pin, problem lies in U10, if there are steps on 8th pin, problem lies in
U8;(2)if yes, whether there exists high-to-low steps when measuring 3th
pin of U21;replace U19 after making sure there does not exist no-soldering
problem;(3)measuring whether there exists high-to-low steps on 2th pin of
Q3 when there are high-to-low steps on 3th pin of U19, replace Q3 if there
is no soldering problem, if there exists, measuring whether 18th pin that
connects Q3 with J11 is connected.

3) For measurement and repairing of expiration valve and manual/auto

4-8
control valve, please refer to the above (2) method together with schematic
diagram.

Phenomenon three: Valve operates, lamps do not work

Make sure the corresponding status lamps of valve are available:

1) If inspiration valve status lamp LD1 is unavailable, please use DC voltage
know to measure whether are high-to-low steps on 2th pin of Q11,if no,
replace Q11, if yes, replace LD1.

2) For repairing expiration valve, manual/auto control valve, please refer to

the above (1) method.

Phenomenon four: There shows oxygen concentration value on oxygen-off

battery or the voltage on adjustable test pointsT2 and T21 cannot reach 1.0V.

1) Measuring whether the voltage of 5th pin on U1 is 8~12V by using DC

voltage knob, if not, please replace U1.

Phenomenon five: wrong status of power battery

1) Check power panel, W6 Cable, U28.

Phenomenon six: no bell alarming/mis-operation status

1) Check bell panel.

2) Make sure right cable wire connection.

3) Check whether the voltage of 1th pin input on display panel Q1 is

high-to-low step voltage, and whether the voltage of 3rd pin output is step
voltage, if both are not, please replace Q1.

4.5.2 Display Panel

Phenomenon 1: No keyboard reaction

1) Make sure W10 cable is well pressured, A1 has processed right program
download, the parts with optional lead acid cells connect W15 cable with
switch power, and all fixed bolts of switch power are fixed on machine
frame, then replace U1 chip CH451(Note: every previous item could lead
to no keyboard reaction.

Phenomenon two: Display panel does not work.

Make sure whether there is high-to-low step voltage on 7th pin output of U2, if there is,
ensuring correctness and operation of Y1, C24, C25; if operation voltage of 52 nd pin on
U2 is 5V, then A1 has no program or is damaged.

1) If the voltage of 52nd pin on A1 does not work well, then check and make
sure right soldering of external voltage on U3, and measure the voltage of

4-9
4th pin on U3 is above or below 5V, then replace U3.

Phenomenon three: blank display screen

1) Measure whether 3rd pin on J6 is higher by using DC voltage know, if not,
there are problems on A1;if it is high level, correctly connect display panel
with controller, and measure the voltage between 1st and 2nd pin on J6, if
the voltage is around 12V, replace inverter after ensuring inverter wire is
well pressured.

2) There are problems on controller or LCD if the display is still

unavailable after replacing inverter.

4.5.3 Power Panel

Phenomenon one: Unavailable power panel/no voltage output on J7 six-hole

single row socket
1) Make sure if there are problems such as 4M crystal oscillator on power
panel damaged or wrong soldering, external circuit problems.

2) Whether there is program on PIC16F676.

3) Make sure the good status of Q3,Q4 external circuit, test whether one pin
on R33 is higher and 3 pin on Q3 is lower, if not, replace Q3, if both of them
are under sound conditions, then measure whether the voltage of 3 pin on
Q4 is 24V, if it is, please measure whether 2 pin on Q4 is higher, if it is not
higher, replace Q4; if the voltage on Q4 is too low or is zero, check whether
boat-form switch cable is well connected, check CZ1, CZ2, CZ3, D9, F1,
and replace the relevant parts after finding out problems.

Phenomenon two: No voltage output on power panel (no operation after machine
initiation, blank screen (No-operation when initiating machine, blank screen
(flickering of red lamp on facial membrane)).
1) Observe there is no output voltage on chip 2676 and external circuit.
J7 six-hole single-row socket

voltage chip Voltage Replacement
1 One pin on U2(top of D16) 5±0.5V 1、U2 2、D16
3 One pin on U16(top of D18) 12±1V 1、U16 2、D18
6 One pin on U3(top of D18) 12±1V 1、U3 2、D15

Phenomenon three: charging available

1) Make sure whether there are problems of external circuit of U7, Q2.
2) Measure the voltage between 1 pin and ground on Q2, if it is high, please
measure whether both the voltage between 2 pin and ground or 3 pin and
ground are high, if not then replace Q2, if the voltage of 1 pin on Q2 is high,
make sure the good status and program download of PIC16F676, and finally
4-10
replace U7 after ensuring the status of external circuit on U7.

3) If the previous ones are under good conditions, please check whether there
are problems on W6 cable pressuring.
