Lesson: Healthy Living, Healthy eating

Aims:
 To give SS practice in using health related vocabulary
 To assume new vocabulary
 To be able to express their opinion fluently concerning a given theme.

Objectives:
 SWBAT use their English language to express their thoughts and feelings
concerning the health theme;
 SWBAT argue their point of view and support their position with examples
 SWBAT use the new vocabulary in new contexts

Skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing

Classroom interactions: individual work, pair and group work

Anticipated problems: some SS may not be able to express a clear point of view
concerning the debated issues: drinking alcohol, eating disorder, junk food

Assumed knowledge: - SS have the necessary vocabulary and knowledge in order to


express a clear point of view

Teaching aids: textbook, handouts, blackboard

Stages of the lesson:

Activity 1: Warm up activity – short discussion on health


Aims: To motivate SS and get them interested in the topic
Procedure: - Teacher asks if there are any absents;
- T asks SS about the importance of health in their lives;
- T writes on the blackboard the word HEALTH and asks SS to
say words or phrases that they know and that are related to
health;
- SS write the words in their notebooks.
Techniques: Discussion, Writing
Interaction: T-SS, SS-T

Activity 2: Use of Vocabulary - Discussion on healthy/unhealthy life


Aims: To get SS to speak about the subject using the related vocabulary,
practicing the grammar structures that have been taught during the
year.
Procedure: - SS are asked to resolve exercise 1. at page 178 from the textbook.
The teacher explains the task and allows the students time to rank
the items in the list and compare them in pairs; then asks some
pairs to report back to the class.
- Teacher asks the SS if they consider their lifestyle healthy or
unhealthy

Activity 3: Use of Vocabulary - Discussion on eating habits


Aims: SS should be able to express their opinion fluently concerning a
given theme.
SS should be able to express solutions for the problems
encountered in their eating habits, to give reasons that might lead to
the problem
Procedure: - SS are divided into 3 groups and are asked to resolve exercise 3,
point a. from page 178 then write the menus for each category on
the blackboard.
- T divides the SS into pairs and asks them to make true sentences
according to their eating habits using the data from exercise 3, point
b. After they finish they read the sentences aloud.
- Also, the SS are asked to express they preferences about eating
vegetables, potatoes, fish, chicken and steak.

Activity 4: Use of Vocabulary, words often confused
Aims: To use in a correct manner the words and phrases given order to
express opinion, recommendation, agreement/disagreement
Procedure: - T asks the students to resolve individually exercise 4 / 179 and
then compare the answers with the rest of the class. Then the T
explains the differences between each set of words.
- T divides the SS into pairs and asks them to complete exercise 5 /
179. Then each pair compares their results with the others.

Interaction: T-SS, SS-T, SS-SS

Activity 5: Phrasal Verbs, Prepositions


Aims: Practicing the grammar structures that have been taught during the
year.
Procedure: - T explains the task and allows the students time to complete
exercise 6 / 179.
- T divides the SS into groups of 4 and asks them to resolve
exercise 7 / 179 from the textbook. A student from each group will
write the answers o the blackboard.
Techniques: Discussion, Writing, Reading, Brainstorming, comprehension
Interaction: T-SS, SS-T, SS-SS
Time: 8’

Feed back: Teacher provides continuous feed back through observations during
the lesson. Teacher checks it the students complete the tasks
entirely and correctly at any stage of the lesson, gives extra
explanations whenever necessary.
Evaluation: oral practice and evaluation, systematic observation, worksheet. At
the end of the lesson teacher asks the students to rate their progress
through the lesson as it follows: Excellent, Good, Ok, Can do
better.
Homework: Teacher announces homework: students will complete a handout
containing a crossword puzzle about healthy foods.
Ending lesson: Teacher greets students and they greet back.
