APOSTROPHES
Apostrophe is a punctuation mark that is used to form a possessive form, contraction, and plural.
Apostrophe is quotation marks (‘) used in writing with English Grammar rules.
1. Contraction (Abbreviation)
Example Contractions :
- We'll = we will
- Won’t = will not
- Aren’t = are not
- They’ve = they have
- We’re = we are
- Who’s = who is
3. Plural
Here, The Apostrophe functions to describe something singular. For this
function, it is usually only used for letters and numbers.
Examples of Sentences with Apostrophe in Plural Form :
" I got B's for my chemical test "
Here, the value B gets an additional ‘s because the value of B that wants to be
clarified here is that I get (some / many) the value of B for my chemistry test.
4. Fixed Expression
A fixed expression is a form of expression that expresses an expression that is
different from the words fixed expression itself.
Example sentence with fixed expression :
- a day's work
- a month's pay
- today’s newspaper
QUOTATION
A quotation is the repetition of one expression as part of another one, particularly when
the quoted expression is well-known or explicitly attributed by citation to its original source, and
it is indicated by (punctuated with) quotation marks.
A quotation can also refer to the repeated use of units of any other form of expression,
especially parts of artistic works: elements of a painting, scenes from a movie or sections from a
musical composition.
COMMA
A. Definition Comma
A comma is a punctuation that resembles a single quotation mark that will reach
its position in the base line of the text.
The general rule of use of comma is that there are no blank spaces before comma;
but there is one space after this punctuation.
Example :
1. Cellular phones, computers, or the internet are no longer foreign items.
2. I want to buy a camera, but my money is not enough.
