SOL standard(s):
3.1 The student will use effective communication skills in group activities.
a) Listen attentively by making eye contact, facing the speaker, asking questions, and
summarizing what is said.
b) Ask and respond to questions from teachers and other group members.
b) Use knowledge of roots, affixes, synonyms, and antonyms to determine the meaning
of new words.
Purpose/Objectives: The student will compare and contrast the point of view from which the
poem is narrated, the setting, rhyme scheme, and use of sensory words.
Each partner will have three questions. Your job is to practice your communication skills and ask
each other questions and give responses.

Scoring:
Students will be called back in pairs during the literacy rotation.
Teacher will give one partner “partner A” questions and one partner “partner B” questions.
The teacher put the name of the student in the name column and then listens to the open ended
responses from each partner.
If the response to the question demonstrates comprehension AND content knowledge, the
teacher will check the box. This assessment is out of 3 points. They will be awarded 1 point for
each correct answer that they give.
