THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD

Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

We begin by wishing you and all your

family and friends a very happy and
blessed Christmas!

Today we celebrate the birth of Jesus

Christ our Saviour. As the carol says: “Oh
come, let us adore him”. The Son of God
was born into our world: not in a palace
with pomp and ceremony, nor in power
and majesty, but in simple humility, in
poverty, in a stable, wrapped in
swaddling clothes. With love, humility
and faith, let us gaze into the crib and
adore our Servant King.
Today we adore not only the infant, but
also the grown man of Nazareth who our
faith tells us is our Lord when we come
together to celebrate Mass. The mystery
of Christmas draws us into the life of God,
all the hopes and promises of God are
fulfilled by his birth. These blessings are
available to us – not just at Christmas –
but day after day, week after week as we
gather to celebrate Mass: Jesus is present
in the Eucharist, just as he was in
Bethlehem, Nazareth and Calvary.
We could do well to remember the joyful
words of the 3rd Sunday of Advent:
“Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say
rejoice! [...] He (the Lord) will exult over
you; He will renew you with his love; He
will dance with shouts of joy for you as
on a day of festival”.
What better reason is there to rejoice,
than to know that our God not only loves
us and delights in us, but that He is also
with us, on our side?
The words of the angels on that first
Christmas night continue to ring in our
ears: “Do not be afraid. Listen. I bring
you news of great joy, a joy to be
shared by the whole people. Today in
the town of David, a saviour has been
born for you; he is Christ the Lord.”
This is the wonder, the joy, the mystery
of Christmas we need to ponder on again
and again throughout the year. We are
not lost; we are not without a hope.
There is good news for us, a cause for us
to rejoice: we have a Saviour!
So this Christmas, let us once again
pledge our loyalty to Christ our Saviour,
and let the Holy Family of Bethlehem and
Nazareth be our guide and refuge.

had received their first Holy Communion in
May 2018 to prepare for the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. The first session will be on

Job Purpose: To serve the Westminster Justice
& Peace Commission in coordinating Justice
and Peace endeavours across the diocese.

Hours of Work: 35 hrs per week.
