Common Core Standards:

CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.B.5 Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things ar-
ranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration;
given a number from 1–20, count out that many objects.
CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.A.3 Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written
numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
Objective: Students will actively move around the room to count the mittens in the pictures. Students
will then write the correct numeral next to the same letter on the recording sheet. Students will com-
plete an extension worksheet counting the mittens and writing the appropriate number.
Materials:
 Mitten picture cards (pg. 3-5)
 Recording Sheet (pg. 8)
 Extension Worksheet (pg. 9)
 Optional: I have included cards with numerals on them, so that you can use the cards to play
memory, etc. (pg. 5-7)
 Optional: Clipboards for students to carry around to record their numbers.
Procedure:
 Print and laminate the cards for durability.
 Tape the mitten object cards around the room.
 Students will take a clipboard and go around the room searching for the letters on their recording
sheet. When they find the matching letter, they will count the objects and write the numeral on the
line beside the picture.
 I have included extra cards with numerals on them. You can use these to play a memory match up
game with both sets of cards. Students will match the numeral to the correct number of mitten
objects.
