DESCRIPTION:
Andhra Pradesh the State which is located at Southern part of India.
Having 13 Districts and electrically divided into two zones APEPDCL
(Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited) and
APSPDCL (Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited).
Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited is Electricity
Distribution Company maintained by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for
the Eight Southern Districts of Andhra Pradesh.
HISTORY
The Southern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh ltd was incorporated under the
companies Act, 1956 as a public limited company on 01-04-2000 with headquarters at Tirupati to carryout
electricity distribution for districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur
and Kurnool Districts.

To create an organization that is profitable, viable, responsive, serving the needs of the customer,
suppliers and employees.
MISSION OF APSPDCL
Commercial Objectives:
Eliminating pilferage of energy
Reducing arrears
Operational Objectives:
Minimizing Technical/Transmission Losses
Reducing transformer failures
Maintaining rolling stock of additional DTRs at every sub-station level to avoid delays in replacing the
failed units.
Social Objectives:
Electrification of Dalith Wadas(Slum areas)
Electrification of poor colonies
Providing uninterrupted power supply to the consumers
Providing better service tto the consumers.
Regulatory Objectives:
To function as per the guidelines issued by APERC
To continuously monitor the progress of various directives issued by APERC.

type and non-conventional type of power plants.

APSPDCL GROWTH FROM 2012 TO 2017


APSPDCL is rapidly or gradually increases its growth in various departments like sub stations,
distribution line 33kv and 11kv lines, distribution transformers, power transformers, consumers and
reduction of distribution of losses.
In 2017 March 31st units sold is 30734.43 Million Units, Number of 33/11 KV Sub stations are
2045, 33 KV lines in kilo meters 18800, 11 KV lines in kilo meters 1732284, low tension lines is 240136
KM, Distribution Transformers are 544505, Power Transformers 2625, Total number of consumers are
1,13,79,916, and the distribution losses are 8.47%, distribution Transformers failures 5.98%.
Above data as of 2017 31st March. And from 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 is shown in below
table and that table shows how the growth is takes place.

APSPDCL is having some agreements with various generating stations to fulfil the requirements
of their customers. Thermal plants they are consuming lot of power compared to other power plants.
Even there is some renewable sources is also agreed but that also not meeting the demand. So much
of demand is meet by using thermal based power plants.
APSPDCL is the company is giving 24x7 reliable power to their customers.
They were taking some awareness on renewable sources.
FUTURE PLANS:
APSPDCL plans to undertake a capital expenditure of Rs. 137,425.50 million between 2016-17 and 2020-
21. A significant portion of these funds will be used to add 67,609 ckt. Km to its line length and 26,712
MVA of transformer capacity during 2016-17 to 2019-20.
Its future plans include metering reforms by installing smart meters for high-value consumers and prepaid
meters for government and public sector consumers. Some of the other initiatives planned by APSPDCL
include the adoption of dynamic tariff for selected consumer categories, which is likely to prepare the
DISCOM better to compete in the market and convert high variable cost stations into flexible generators
for cost optimization. For encouraging the use of cleaner and sustainable energy sources, the DISCOM has
come up with a proposal to install 30,000 grid-connected solar pumpsets in the next three years.
CHALLENGES:
APSPDCL is facing problem in summer season to provide good quality and reliable power to their
customers due to lack of power generation. Due to this APSPDCL is going conduct some awareness
programs on renewable energy system to their customers in order to overcome lack of power.
APSPDCL facing problem on power theft it taking some action regarding power theft and keeping some
security to avoid power thefts.
