1.Introduction:
An educational visit was arranged by our HOD Dr.N.H.Kulkurni Sir on 3 August 2018 to
watershed management project at Nagdarwadi village ,tq Loha ,dist Nanded.

Nagdarwadi is small villageof 40 families, who have lived and farmed on this land for
generations. All this past generation have faced lot of problems due to lack of water resource
,as this village comes in Marathwada region having less rainfall. So the drought condition
was taking place every year, and main reason was not only rainfall but also lack of
knowledge related to water conservation and its management. So it was very important to
deal with this Drought condition to overcome all the problems.

Until implementation of project in this area ( until 2004),the villagers had to bring drinking
water from the well(resource) which was 3-4 km away from village every day. Even there
where some situation in summer season that villagers have to settle near the water resource
whole day for consumption of water for various purposes.

To change this scenario in Nagdarwadi village a Watershed Development program was

undertaken by a team of some enthusiastic young people who wanted to really do something
for their village headed by Mr. Babasaheb one of the villagers of Nagdarwadi.

2.Objectives:
The main goal of Watershed Management is to implant the sustainable management of
natural resources to improve the quality of living for the population is to be accomplished by
the following objectives:

 To minimize the risk of Drought.

 To extend micro watershed to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the
inhabitants.
 To catalyse the formation of village groups for mobilizing their environment activities
through SHG initiatives.
 To facilitate the people for sustainable economic development along the watershed
lines.
 To reduce the rate at which rainwater flows away from the area.
 To raise the groundwater levels (and recharge defunct wells)
 To reforest the surrounding area.

3.People’s Participation.
As human beings and their activities are the primary cause of environmental
degradation, only they can restore the health of the environment they have ruined by resetting
their ways and activities towards the environment around. Hence there can be no sustainable
natural resource management unless it involves the participation of all inhabitants of the
concerned environment/area in an active manner.
Equitable Water was set up as an entirely voluntary charity in 2004 to focus on small
projects delivering water (for irrigation and drinking) and conserving water in impoverished
parts of rural India. Equitable water supported Nagdarwadi village through SSM (Sanskriti
Samvardhan Mandal ) in 2004.

This Development project was taken to the completion with 80% of the charity funds
and 20% of the peoples participation through the labour’s works. Before the project could
begin, the community had to demonstrate that they could work together, plan, implement and
sustain the watershed programme. SSM established a village watershed committee and
women self-help groups of 10-15 women to monitor and sustain the programme in
Nagdarwadi. SSM provided training programmes on technical and social issues for the self-
help groups and village watershed committee. Today, the self-help groups meet every month
to discuss social issues and problems. They maintain accounts, minutes and other documents.
