ASK ME ABOUT – Div 6

Some things I learned this week: Dec 3-Dec 7

Language Arts: This week we continued to work on the sound CH. There are so many new words to learn
with this sound! We all are working very hard in our reading groups. Due to scheduling this year we are
not doing formal sessions twice a week but instead we are reading in groups whenever we can find a
moment. All groups are getting at least one lesson a week with a book that is level appropriate. They
have the opportunity to practice these books daily during independent reading time. I am very happy
with all of their progress!

***CBI:Fluency in a language facilitates our interactions with others.

Next week’s words are: The sound “Ou”

Mathematics: This week we continued our +4 drills. Mme Hannah continued her unit on patterning. We
explored growing patterns through building, extending, describing, and representing by using pattern
blocks. Students recorded and analyzed numerical data by using a three-column chart, and sketches to
represent the growth of their shapes. We also started exploring how we can use numbers in growing
patterns by using addition. Next week we will be exploring decreasing patterns, and finish up by
assessing understanding of the unit.

***CBI (Math): Development of computational fluency in addition and subtraction.

Science/Socials: This week we wrapped up our Science/Social Studies unit on Salmon. The students
completed their projects and a self-evaluation. I hope you are enjoying going through their work and
celebrating together!

Art: Mme. Hannah and Mme. Danica taught art this week. We collaborated together with Mme. Kim’s
class and explored the use of texture in visual arts. We used paint and sponges to create texture around
our outline of a tree. The art work is currently hung outside of the class!

Physical Education: We had a great time at our fourth skating lesson this week! Lessons finish next
Thursday. We also played some running and tag games in the gym as it is now ready!

***CBI (PE): Learning how to participate and move our bodies in different physical activities helps us
develop physical literacy.
***CBI (PE): Daily participation in physical activity at moderate to vigorous intensity levels benefits all
aspects of our well-being.
