5 Installation
It is LANDTEC’s recommendation that the installation of the GA3000 PLUS is in
accordance with the instructions laid out within this operating manual, and the
current BS EN 60079-14 standard.
Note: Failure to comply with any of the above may result in additional
time on site and additional costs.
The weight of the cabinet and contents will depend on the options that are
fitted, but will be approximately 36 kg; it is therefore recommended that the
installation be undertaken by a minimum of two people.
Four mounting fixings are supplied and fitted to each corner of the GA3000
PLUS. Suitable nut & bolt or raw bolt arrangements will have to be defined by
the operator for fixing to the wall or framework (it is recommended that these
are stainless steel). Dimensions of the cabinet are provided in – Enclosure wall
mounting bracket dimensions:
D Drain
Note: The user must remove an M20 stopping plug from annotation A
where they plan to place a cable gland. The remaining M20 stopping
plugs must remain in place if the holes are unused in order to maintain
the IP rating of the enclosure.
Note: Where an air purge is not required on the system variant, an M20
stopping plug will be fitted in its place (see annotation C). This must
remain in place to maintain the integrity of the enclosure.
Warning The mains and output cables must enter the cabinet by
armored cable via a metal Ex ‘e’ cable gland and the
mains supply should be isolated.

The relays operate in a ‘fail safe’ mode, i.e. normally energized. This means
wiring across connections 11 and 12 during a fault alarm condition will
complete the circuit (de-energizing the relay). Refer to Diagram 6 - Relay wiring
diagram in non-energized state for a relay wiring diagram.
The relays are volt free change-over contacts. The maximum rated voltage is
240V. The relays operate by energizing when the particular sample point is
being monitored and thus the 4-20mA and Modbus outputs should be read
when the solenoid changes state from energized to de-energized. Refer to
Diagram 6 - Relay wiring diagram in non-energized state for a relay wiring

appropriate outputs namely from left to right (1, 2, 3 and 4). Refer to
annotation K on – GA3000 PLUS instrument components for the 4-20mA
terminal locations.
It is important for the user to understand the analog inputs on their logging
system. There are two types – ‘current sink’ and ‘current source’.

The PLC acts as a slave.
The protocol is MODBUS RTU.
Note: Floating point numbers, consist of two 16 bit words to give a 32 bit
single precision floating point number. The first word (e.g. 428771) holds
the sign in bit 15, the exponent in bits 14-7, part of the mantissa in bits
6-0. The remaining part of the mantissa is in the next register (e.g.
428772) bits 15 – 0.
The system incorporates a catchpot for removal of liquid and filters to help
prevent water from entering the analyzer. However, additional water filtering
may be required where the sample is heavily contaminated with water.
Warning The gas being exhausted at this point of the system will
be flowing at approximately 300ml/min. If the sample
gas is being vented to atmosphere, it should be routed
to a safe and well-ventilated area.
During an air purge air is vented from this line, meaning it can be left
open to atmosphere.
If the GA3000 PLUS is being installed inside a building it is recommended
that this line is vented to a safe area away from users.
The connection on the analyzer (refer to annotation G on GA3000 PLUS
connection points) is a 6mm stainless steel bulkhead connector, suitable
for 6mm o/d stainless steel tubing.
Warning When performing an air purge the gas that was
previously sampled will be vented to atmosphere for a
short period of time, typically 10 seconds. This equates
to approximately 50ml of gas per air purge.
5.9.5 Drain
The drain line should be run to a position where it is safe to discharge
the small amount of liquid that is removed from the sample gas.
Periodic inspection of the catchpot is required to check if water has been
collected. To drain the liquid:
o Pause the system (please refer to section Pause Sampling).
o Close the sample valve(s) (refer to annotation L on – GA3000
PLUS instrument components) to the horizontal position.
o Open the drain valve (refer to annotation L on – GA3000 PLUS
instrument components) to the vertical position.
After the liquid has drained, close the drain valve, open the sample
valve(s) and resume monitoring.
The connection is a ¼” BSP female bulkhead.
Warning The catchpot can hold approximately 82ml of liquid.
Note: This line may also vent sample gas for a brief period during each
draining operation if the sample inlet valves are not closed.
During this time, many of the gas analyzer’s functions are tested, including:
Testing of the CH4, CO2, O2, reference, barometer, internal cell and
transducers is performed continuously over a short period of time to
check for faults and instability.
The pump is switched on, and the system checked for blockages.
The time and date is checked.
The next service due date is checked.
Valid communications to the PLCs is checked.
Test whether the ‘first time run set-up’ is required.

7 Calibration
7.1 Calibration Introduction
The GA3000 PLUS range of gas analyzers are carefully calibrated at
manufacture and when returned for service. However, it is sometimes
desirable to carry out a calibration process between services.
This section outlines the correct procedures to enable the site engineer to field
calibrate the gas analyzer.
Note: This does not replace the factory service and calibration. If this
calibration is completed incorrectly, it may decrease the accuracy of the
gas analyzer.
All GA3000 PLUS range analyzers can measure CH4, CO2, and O2 as standard;
these channels can be user calibrated. There are also optional additional gases
to these which are specified at manufacture; these too can be calibrated. This
section will describe in detail how to calibrate the three standard gas channels
plus the additional internal and external sensors.
Two important terms that are used within this section are ‘Zero’ and ‘Span’.
Zero: The point at which the gas analyzer is calibrated when there is none of
the target gas present.
Span: The point at which the gas analyzer is calibrated when a known quantity
of the target gas is present.
The following table indicates the different gas mixture canisters recommended
for calibration:
O2 0-25% 21%
H 2S 0-50ppm 50ppm
H 2S 0-200ppm 50ppm
H 2S 0-500ppm 250ppm
H 2S 0-1,000ppm 250ppm
H 2S 0-5,000ppm 3,000ppm
H 2S 0-10,000ppm 3,000ppm
H2 0-1,000ppm 750ppm
CO 0-1,000ppm 500ppm
These are for general use but other gas concentrations and mixtures can be
used. For example, a mixture of 60% CH4 and 40% CO2 can be used for the
calibration of these channels.

8.5.5) Replace the filter.
8.5.6) Replace the bung ensuring not to over tighten in the gas analyzer
case. Replace all cables and tubing and fit back in the gas analyzer
bracket and secure using the two bolts removed in section two.
8.5.7) Test the system in accordance with Tests to Perform after
Maintenance.
Note: The instrument will then run through the first time set up wizard.
Please see section First Time Run Set-up in this manual for details.
8.6.3 Set-Up
Image 3 – Pressure test equipment set-up examples how the equipment will
look when performing the test procedure:
8.6.4.3 GA3KPLUS3
The system does need to be powered on and in the PLC diagnostics screen (see
section PLC Diagnostics) to perform this test.
Monitor the pressure reading for one minute and ensure it does not
drop by more than 10mbar.
If this test passes, the system is deemed leak free.
If this test fails, the system needs to be investigated to ascertain the
source of the leak. Once found and rectified, repeat the test to ensure it
is resolved.
Should the need arise for the gas analyzer section of the system to be returned
for service, it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure that the analyzer has
been decontaminated or that LANDTEC has been made aware of any
contaminants that may be present.
9 Service
9.1 General
The GA3000 PLUS range of gas analyzers should be regularly serviced to ensure
correct and accurate operation. LANDTEC recommends a service and
recalibration every 6 months.
9.2.1) Pause sampling using key ‘5’ from the main read screen.
9.2.2) Check the safe values are set to correct levels to maintain your
operation. If not refer to section Safe Value and Analog Set-up in this
operating manual to edit these.
9.2.3) If ok, select key ‘3’ to fix at safe values. (The outputs will then be
frozen at these values allowing removal of instrument).
9.2.4) Close sample inlet valve(s).
9.2.5) Remove the gas analyzer by removing the two bolts from the top
fixing bracket, it is recommended that an adjustable spanner is used
to undo the fitting.
9.2.6) Disconnect the two Lemo connectors on the left hand side of the
unit (DC voltage and RS232 communications), then disconnect the
gas inlet and outlet connectors (top left and top right hand side of
analyzer).
9.2.7) Fit the temporary replacement gas analyzer and reverse these
instructions.
9.2.8) Test the system in accordance with Tests to Perform after
Maintenance.
The instrument will then run through the first time set up wizard – see
section First Time Run Set-up in this operating manual.
10 Problem Solving
This section outlines various warning and error messages which the operator
may receive during general operation of the instrument. For further assistance
please contact technical support at LANDTEC on +1 (909) 783-3636 or email
technical@LANDTECNA.com
Use the ‘Scroll Up’ and ‘Scroll Down’ keys to move through the list if required.
The instrument also performs background tests in normal operation.
The most likely reason for the errors is either an incorrect user
calibration or sensor failure. If an incorrect user calibration has caused
the warning, it should be correctable by way of returning the instrument
to factory settings, zeroing, or carrying out a user calibration as
necessary for the relevant function.
2. Critical: With a critical fault the fault screen will appear detailing the
error (see Screen 31 – Critical fault detected), the 4-20mA and Modbus
outputs will be frozen at their last known value and the fault relay will
become de-energized. Monitoring cannot be resumed until the fault is
cleared.
Note: Pressing key ‘5’ will take the user to the diagnostics screen; see
section Diagnostics in this operating manual for further information.
Note: Pressing key ‘5’ will take the user to the diagnostics screen; see
section Diagnostics in this operating manual for further information.
10.1.3.3 Diagnostics
From either of the fault screens pressing key ‘5’ will take the user to the
diagnostics screen, see Screen 32 – Diagnostics below. The user may be
requested to view this screen if they contact technical support due to a fault.

Problem Solving
Screen 32 – Diagnostics
If a reading is over range (i.e. above the maximum allowed reading), it will be
displayed with ‘more than’ chevrons (>>).
A number displayed as an asterisk (*) indicates an error and a hash (#) indicates
no data is available.
If this procedure does not resolve the issue, isolate the supply to the system
and turn the power back on. If the problem persists, please contact our
technical support team.
If the problem persists, check that the fuses are still intact.
Finally, if the fault is still present contact our technical support team.
