STUDENT BIOGRAPHY:
My name is Lisa Harry and I am from Shiprock, New Mexico. I have been part of the Fort Lewis teacher education
program for three years. Throughout the years, I have gained valuable learning experiences from my professors and field
study placements. I have gained 200+ hours of field study at the following schools: Park Elementary, Mesa Elementary,
Sunnyside Elementary, and Nizhoni Elementary. I have worked with students in first and second grade. I have taught
reading, writing, phonics, math, science, social and studies lessons in my field study classrooms. I have learned to create
lessons that are engaging, implement higher order thinking skills, and meaningful to the students. Receiving feedback on
the lessons I taught have helped me grow as a student teacher. Throughout my experiences, I have developed my
understanding of implementing differentiation into lessons to support student learning. I am passionate about building
relationships with students in field study classrooms. I learn to understand each student’s unique personality because it
plays a key role when it comes to teaching the students and the learning styles that works for them.

Communication is a key factor when speaking with students, mentor teacher,

and faculty members.
TEACHING Incorporating culture into the classroom learning is my strongest teaching area.
I am very passionate about diversity because it creates a beautiful classroom
STRENGTHS environment. As I will be student teaching on the Navajo Reservation, I have
the cultural knowledge to bring into the classroom learning.

I have the mindset that I am always learning as a teacher. I am open to receiving

feedback on how I teach a lesson, areas of strengths that I can continue to work
on, and areas that I can improve on.

Connecting and building a relationship with students is important to me and it

helps set a positive learning atmosphere where everyone is respected.
Everyone’s voice contributes to the classroom learning.

During practicum experience, I have grown to incorporate social emotional

development into the classroom setting. I believe it is important for students to
express their emotions and how to respond to them.

Through practicum experience, I have learned unique classroom management

TEACHING strategies. Classroom management is still an area that I will continue to
develop.

GROWTH Throughout my field practice, I have taught numerous lessons and I have
learned to focus on my time management skills. I still want to grow on teaching
a consistent lesson to ensure student learning. I also want to grow in the
different ways to implement differentiation skills into my teaching.

Taking initiative in classroom learning is a skill that I have seen tremendous

growth in. I want to keep up the habit of knowing when to provide the support
to the students’ learning.

When teaching lessons, I have become better at using appropriate language for
students to understand, so I would like to continue growing on communicating
well with students.

Being innovative in my lesson planning and teaching is what I strive for and is an
area I like to grow on. I also like to develop on integrating authentic
differentiation methods into my lessons.
