How do epicenter of an earthquake differ from its focus?
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Define focus and epicenter of an earthquake
2. Illustrate the difference between focus and epicenter using the model
3. Infer the significance of focus and epicenter in our daily lives.

ELICIT Materials/Assessment
Tool
Students will be grouped into 5. Each group will Select a Leader, Secretary,
reporter and resource manager.
The teacher will give the activity sheets (Activity 1: “Model Me”).
The task of the students is to perform activity 1. after performing, they are going
to write on the Manila Paper about the model using the guide questions.
Students will then report their answer.
Scores will be determined according to rubrics.

• The model represents a portion of the ground. The upper surface of the model
represents the surface of the Earth.
• The “break” between the two pieces of the model is the “fault line”.
• The dot represents the focus.

EXPLORE
Mix-n-Match Classroom Game: Students play a Mix-n-Match Classroom
Game. Each member of the group will receive a strips of cartolina containing
with either a vocabulary term or definition. Teacher can then play music.
Students will dance while walking around when music stops or teacher says
"Freeze." Students will find and match the strips of cartolina that best
defines/explains their term or definition in their group within 5 seconds.
Scores will be given based on the following rubrics below.

 Earthquake - Vibration or movement of a fault
 Fault - Break or fracture

Teacher will let each group to explain from the class about their answers.
Teachers will facilitate, process and add important information to explain

• “Project Venn”: Students will make a project using a Venn Diagram

Teacher will give the flashcards (with letters A-D) to each group.
Student will read the question on the board/screen. There is no time limit Laptop,
