Air Quality Specialist

Position Overview:

• Provides technical advice, guidance and recommendations to Client’s air quality monitoring section as
well as other sections (ground water, water, hazardous waste) if needed, through reviewing permit
application packages and monthly reports from industries, preparing and reviewing technical reports,
performing on-site inspections, sample collection and witnessing sample collection and stack testing.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provides technical advice and recommendations to execute the overall air quality monitoring program
requirements including sampling, testing and interpretations of data and reporting.
• Review and evaluate all required technical reports and studies from industries (such as environmental
impact studies and self-monitoring report)
• Assist and develop the existing air quality monitoring program to ensure its in line with international
requirements
• Conducting field inspections to ensure the compliance of industries with the Client’s standards and
regulations
• Evaluate industries pretest plan / SOW for stack testing and fugitive emission.
• Witness the stack testing and fugitive emission tests that are to be conducted by Client’s approved
consultants to ensure their compliance with the Client requirements
• Participates in periodic revision of Client Environmental regulations and standards and implement the
same in line with Kingdom’s laws, international regulations and standards and best practices.
• Evaluate the operation of various pollution control systems installed by industries; monitors and
resolves issues relating to environmental monitoring management.
• Support the operation of and data collection from Client’s air quality monitoring stations.
• Prepare quality assurance and quality control for air quality analyzers
• Review preventive maintenance for all analyzers as recommended by manufacturing
• Prepare technical reports on the status of air quality and meteorological findings at the city, establish a
chronological order of quality and advises management of reasons for trends in decline or improvement
• Evaluates the impact of air source pollution on ambient air based on stack testing results/calculation
and ambient air monitoring.
• Performs and/or reviews air quality analyzer calibrations
• Develops and runs computer-based air quality models using AERMOD and CALPUFF software
• Knowledge of odor monitoring techniques and management practices with an appreciation of the
difficulties associated would be a distinct advantage
• Experience of carbon accounting and industrial greenhouse gas inventorying would be desirable
• Performs any other related duties as assigned or directed by the Client.
Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Chemical Engineering, Environmental engineering, Environmental


Science). Higher degree of MSc or PhD is preferable.
• 6-11 years of relevant experience in the field of Air pollution and environmental Monitoring.
• Knowledge of US-EPA and EU regulations and standards and safety and environment
• Knowledge of US-EPA stack testing methods and fugitive emission tests
• Experience with EIRMOD and CALPUFF air dispersion models is beneficial
• Knowledge of US-EPA groundwater protection standards and experience with groundwater remediation
• Experience working for a regulatory agency is a plus
• Key technical skills in the following:
• Time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Relevant computer proficiency, experience in using Microsoft Office tools and / or any relevant
software.
• Must speak and write in English
• Arabic speaking and writing is a plus
