Religion Chapter 5 Review

Objectives
Students will be able to understand the key points of the chapter.

Anticipatory Set (5 minutes)

Today we are going to play a game called “Stinky Feet.” While this game does have a
funny name, it has a very serious review to it. You are going to split into groups. I will tell you
how you will be split after I give the directions of the game. Each group will get a whiteboard
and a whiteboard marker. I will ask a question to everyone. As a group, you will come up to the
answer of the question and write it on the whiteboard. I will know your group is ready to answer,
when the person who is writing has the marker in the air (show with own hand raised). Once all
the groups are ready, you are going to show me your whiteboards. If your group has the correct
answer, one person will come to the board and pick a sticky note. This is where the game gets a
little stinky. On the sticky notes, there are point values. Some are positive, some are negative,
and some don’t have any. I will write the total of your group up on the board after you have
picked a sticky note. Are there any questions about the game?
You may choose your groups today, however if you get too out of hand, your group will
go to their desks and write each answer in their notes instead of playing with the group. I need
you in groups of four, with one group of five. Let’s see if you can get ready with a whiteboard
and your group in a FAST 30.

Procedures (20 minutes)

I am going to read the questions one by one. I will mark the questions that many groups
struggle with and come back to them again as a question or after the game as a reminder.

I will go over any questions that were commonly missed.
Remember that your test is tomorrow so you should study tonight. Are there any
questions? Please line up for P.E.

Assessment
Students will be assessed of their understanding of the chapter about Baptism through
their group answers throughout the game.
Lesson #3 Review
Before teaching this lesson, I was excited to try a new review game. My last review game
went well and I was hoping that this had the same response. While the students did like the
review game, they got a little too excited. I often had to wait for them to quiet down before
reading the next question. I started to simply read the questions and if they could not hear me, I
only repeated it twice. This helped, but they still got a little too excited for Ms. Decker.
Afterwards, I think it would have gone well had they not know the points and I just told them at
the end of the game. I think that they do well with games, just not with points. Due to the amount
of talking, I didn’t get to seven of the questions. That being said, I did not think that I would get
to all the questions and gave the most important questions first. While religion is thirty minutes,
it typically is twenty when figuring transitions. The students did well with the questions and
those that struggled, knew it was important for them to study tonight. I used the classroom
management that Ms. Decker has in place already, counting down. From my experience in this
classroom, this strategy does not work well with the class with Ms. Decker and I experienced the
same today. I believe that the students know that there is no dire consequence for when the
counting stops as well as there is not a positive for them if they do stop talking before the
counting is done. I don’t think this management procedure works well and do not plan to use it in
the future. I also had students raise the markers in the air when they were done writing. This
worked well for me to see what groups were done as well as it stopped them from changing their
answers. I think that it is a useful tool to use the in the future in other games or reviews for whole
class. Overall, the students greatly enjoyed the game and it was clear that they were learning as
well as having fun. I believe that it is important to have some fun with your students and give
them small ways to express themselves. Through the ability of choosing their groups and the
group names, they were able to express themselves. Something that I struggled with was that
after the lesson, Ms. Decker stated that she would have stopped the game as the students weren’t
following directions. I however continued the game because while they were getting excited and
a little noisy, they were still listening for my next question and getting review done well. If I
were to reteach this lesson, I personally would have kept the points and just given the students
updates every couple of minutes or so. I think this would have helped tame the excitement and
helped with the noise level.
